I agree with shebashetan7, the 1950's (or 1960's) would be a great time period. You will need to make bigger logs as there was a lot old growth coming out of the woods back then.

In Pennsylvania, (and almost every other State), each and every tree was cut down (aside from a choice few historic trees that were spared), at one point of time, or another, leaving the land totally deforested, and severely eroded of topsoil, in the era of the Dustbowl ...
