From what I saw while traveling across the midwest and southwest a couple of weeks ago, there were plenty of TOFC carrying UPS and FedEX trailers. In addition from what I know from using UPS extensively as well as other carriers, which I dealt with for delivery of goods and parts for the company where I worked.

UPS uses rail for the cross country trip unless it's an overnight shipment and also depending upon the distance. A good example is a warranty hard drive replacement. I returned the dud back to Seagate in California through their RMA process. The replacement drive made its way across the country via rail. I found this out because of a derailment on the Southern Pacific (UP)!

Your lawnmower may have gone via rail to Salina then local truck to OKC. This is a long drive, but within what a trucker could handle easily. I know because I've ridden this route a couple of times in the past. The trip from OKC to Mesquite, just outside of Dallas, is only 216 or so miles. This trip like the Salina to OKC is most likely a local truck as well. This would explain the double scans at Salina and OKC in addition to the delivery.

Is there a UPS hubb in Salt lake? Might be coming by rail the Seattle then via I5 to Tacoma and ETA my house 5/4. None too soon, the grass just keeps growing. :(

Thanks.

actually, the train would probaly take it to tacoma, and then from there to a distribution there (if there is one) and then to your house

The UPS distribution center is in Fife, WA, but I think the trailers would be unloaded in Seattle or South Seattle as I do not know of any TOFC facility in Tacoma. BUT, I have wrong before and I'll be wrong again, just ask my wife.:o
