This sounds like a great project, but sadly I don't have any time to help. I'd be interested though to follow it as you progress with it though. I have family up in the area and used to spend my summers up in Hopewell Jct.

Is that by the rarely used Beacon or Maybrook lines that Metro North owns?

I think so. The last time I was up that way, the Poughkipsee bridge was still in service, and the New Haven was in operation!

I looked recently at the maps in Bing, and the tracks looked like they're in use, although near Hopewell Jct. The tracks look pretty bad.

Yep. Tracks were taken off that bridge. Now, I believe it is called the walkway over the Hudson. As for the Maybrook and Beacon lines owned by Metro North, it looks like the tracks are in really bad condition to be used for in passenger service. I think the Metro North freights that rarely run on this could only travel at maximum speeds of 10-15mph. The track starts a little bit south of Beacon, and I think it merges right into the Danbury branch. Part of the tracks seem like they have been preserved for this program called, rails for trails. Who knows, maybe in the future, the MTA will invest to make this a passenger route. Not too long ago, there is a video on Youtube, it looks like there are 2 double headed consist of Bl20gh, shoreliners, and p32ac-dm traveling on this line.

Interesting. I hope they preserve the tracks rather than make this into a rail trail. Those NIMBYs and yuppies seem to forget what trains are for, and would rather sit in traffic for over 4 hours each way to work! I wonder if the bridge will ever become a rail bridge again. Sometimes people are so short-sighted on things like this.

10-15 mph freights sounds like they learned how to run trains from PAR! (Guilford/Pan Am Railways) It wasn't until the NS invested in their southern end from Rotterdam to Ayer MA, that they had anything faster than 20 mph over the whole freight line from Maine to New York. The fastest sections are those owned by the MBTA and Amtrak who do the track maintenance and PAR can get a free ride, literally. At one time, the old B&M, even in bankruptcy, was running 45 mph freights on their whole rail line, and the old Maine Central was doing the same.

I have some good items that you may want to think about downloading to make a good addition towards this big project.

1. You could download all of the content from Dinorius Redundicus on the DLS. I think he created around 569 items. But I think it is worth it. I downloaded about 200 or 300 of his items.

2.You can download the CDOT shoreliner pack from Trainzersource and Milkyoreo27.

3.You can download the Kawasaki M8 from TCR. I am about to continue construction in the Bronx.
