Uploading Objects in '09/'10

Trainz Jedi
I finally updated to TRS2009 in December and created a few new things that I want to upload. I remember reading in some post about Auran killing off '04 that there were or would be things we needed to do to the config files in order for the DLS to accept items as '09 objects. Otherwise, they would be rejected.

I am unable to find a CCG for TRS2009 - or 2010, for that matter, which I just got and haven't had time to mess with. Does one exist? And the DLS is seemingly ALWAYS flooded, so I can't download a TRS2009 locomotive to see what its config file looks like (BTW, why is that place always so busy/down?).

I haven't found anything helpful in the manual, either.

Does anyone have a suggestion? Or is TPR my only solution?

I love your older stuff! Glad to see you upgraded and will still be able to produce content, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you do.

I'm just going to shoot in the dark here, but the outdated stuff shows up in Content Manager with a red or yellow exclamation point next to it, and if you right click on it, it will give you an option in the drop-down menu to see what is wrong with it.

It probably isn't the BEST way to create content, but I've just opened the stuff (your old stuff included) with CCP which will "update" the content (i.e. change the build number) and then fixed what the errors were and recommitted it, and it works fine. Occasionally, I've needed to use one of the PEVsoft tools to fix a pm to im or a bad texture, but most of it was relatively simple stuff. (I'm on my Mac in OS X right now instead of Win7, so I can't walk through it and I'm sort-of going from memory here)

I'm sure if you do what you always did before, then run it through this (or maybe the PEV tools) DLS will accept it, but then stranger things have happened.

Getting my old stuff to work has not been a problem. Everything worked just fine with no changes.

However, Auran's server is supposed to be rejecting things that are '04 and older.

What I'm not sure about is... is simply updating the trainz-build tag to "2.9" enough? Is 2.9 even the correct build number for TRS2009? I tried 3.0 back in September and it was rejected as not being a valid version number of Trainz. Or is there more to put into the config file?

"Contacting download site...please wait.
Download Link unavailable.

Either:

  • If you have just only registered your serial number, your access may not have been activated, please try again in 10 minutes.
  • The maximum number of connections to our download server has been reached."
Sigh.

2009, 2010 and TS12 will accept 2.7 as a build number, 2.7 being the lowest supported version.
Most of the DLS fixes for broken content are being uploaded as 2.7
so that those with TC3 can use them.

Use TC3 engine specs and you should be ok for 2009 +

There is no CCG although much of the 2006 CCG is still applicable, it's now on the Wiki http://online.ts2009.com/mediaWiki/index.php5/TrainzDev_Wiki. It's got a few glaringly obvious gaps though.

Basically if it's not in the 2006 CCG it shouldn't be in the config.

Common faults are rem type comments, blank tags with nothing in them, obsolete tags from old versions that no longer apply, no mesh table or shadow mesh, that sort of thing.

Be aware that 2010 is tighter on error checking as is again TS12.

Thanks, clam1952.

Where can I find TC3 engine specs to use? I don't know what makes TC3 engine specs different from '04.

While I'm at it, is there a faster way to import content than one piece at a time? I just downloaded a new route (new to me) from TPR and everything appears to be a WinRAR archive.

It's so tedious doing it one piece at a time that I think I'll go mow the lawn.:o
