Upgraging from 2009 to 2012

I am contemplating making the leap from Trainz 2009 to 2012. Aside from wondering about if I will still be able to access and play the routes I created in 2009, what would be the best reasons for upgrading? What are the advantages? Are there any downsides? I'm looking for hinest assessments from folks who have experience with both versions.

Thanks!

Luckily, I can now give advice on this type of topic, as I now have TS12.

The main benefits come if you want Multiplayer.

As for possible downsides, a lot of the built-in content from TS2009/TS2010 has been removed from TS12, which will mean either copying .ja files, or downloading the TS2010 versions from the Download Station.

P.S. TADDaemon is a lot quicker to close on TS12.

Also, if you want to read about my dealings with TS12, there's a thread about it (TS12 - My story so far) in the TS12 forum.

Thanks Shane. I'll check out your threads.

Multiplayer isn't really important to me. Ive been running 2009 on laptops and, while it had issues on my old one, it has run rather well on my new Inspirion. The only thing is I need to use a cooling pad, but that's a minor inconvenience. So I guess I should add the question if the graphic requirements of 2012 versus 2009 would present a problem.

I'm more interested in building my own layouts, so if I lose some of the built-in routes, that may not be a big deal for me. I'd be more concerned about losing routes or content out of routes I built in 2009.

I guess what I'm really asking is if there is a strong compelling reason to make the jump?

There are smoothness improvements over TS2009 (and TS2010), although the framerates may not be much bigger.

My system is quite low-end in my opinion, and it runs TS12 OK (I can give you the specs of it if needed).

Transferring between the two may be a bit tricky given what I said in the first post.

Probably depends on which version of 2009 you're running - TADDaemon was introduced in 2009 SP4, and my opinion is that it's the biggest cause of performance problems. TRS2009 SP3 runs smoother, but has too many other problems;

To be useable at all for me. So what I'm looking at is 2009, 2010, and TS12 all run with about the same performance. So if you are running 2009 SP4 you won't really lose anything by buying 12.
