Upgrade to 2012 from 2010??

I just checked my Auran TS2010 Folder properties with the explorer, and this is what I came up with. It says my File folder contains 113 GB 729,037 files
55,000 folders. Is this what I will have on the J/drive when I copy it over?
Right now my computer works just fine the way it is. Trainz runs very good and I get about an average of 55 to 70 FPS on my largest routes both my own route and Marias Pass the complete route. I think is still the largest route in trainz.
Now I'm thinking maybe I better just leave everything alone and just Load 2012 right on the C/drive first and see what happens before I get myself into another pickle.:)
Please don't forget I only know enough about computers to be dangerous. Oh before I forget, Now I have 113 gb of free space left on my C/drive. Then I'm out of gas!!

Yikes, that's a lot of gigs.

I spent 10 years working as a teacher's aide in an elementary school, and used those books to teach first and second grade kids basic computer operation. So they're easy to understand, might not make you a guru but will clear up a lot of mysteries and turn you into a "power user" in fairly short time.

Copying files and folders from one disk to another or to a different location on the same disk won't hurt the original, because it's reading the source and writing to a target, it doesn't overwrite anything in the source folder so it won't affect it. 113 gigs will take a while to copy, I would suggest starting it before going to bed, shut off the monitor and leave the computer running overnight. Copying the folder to the new disk won't change anything in the original, so no pickle potential until you go to delete the original - before that I would advise thoroughly testing the copy to make sure it's all there and working, you can do the same right click - properties to make sure all the bytes are there but also test by checking for faulty assets in content manager and run a few routes from the new copy to make sure it works before deleting the original. Don't rush it, leave the original in place for a couple weeks or even months until you're sure the new one is all there.

Wow! 113 Gigs. I'd back up that installation as-is before paring anything down, as I'm sure you do. You're right, don't fix what isn't broken. Seems you're doing something right! ;) See how you like TS12 and slowly migrate content, if you feel its warranted.

I even deleted tons of stuff before. I think most of the content I have came along with so many routes I downloaded and there is no way to avoid that.
I'm going to do exactly what you say Sniper that seems to be a sensible solution, without getting into any trouble. I use to try and delete a lot of content but I just got overwhelmed by all the assets. And I can't get myself to delete the whole program and start all over:hehe:
I'm just a hopeless downloader!!

They should have a 12 step program for trainsimmers. :hehe: Best idea, save stuff a bit at a time to CDP, delete, then click the missing dependencies tab to find out if deleting any of those broke something else. Managing assets and dependencies is tedious, but not that hard to learn. Main thing is dependent assets, a session has dependencies but no dependent assets, a route has sessions as dependent assets so if you delete the route first then all the sessions for that route will pop up the missing dependency icon. You can delete the route in the game route menu instead of content mangler, that will take out all the sessions along with the route. After that you can start deleting assorted terrain textures after first right clicking and "view dependent assets", if it shows no dependent assets it's okay to delete. Same thing with trainsets, got an ugly GP38 you no longer want view dependent assets, which would be sessions and/or consists, but don't start deleting cabviews and bogies before the trainsets which depend on them. There's a somewhat complicated chain of dependencies and dependent assets, but with the built in view dependencies and view dependent assets gadgets it's not that hard to figure out. Just tedious.

Hi Bob,

Check the backups folder in your TS10 directory. It can often have a lot of stuff in it that you can delete safely if everything in running fine.

Auran\TS2010\UserData\backups

Sorry Shane, you are right to say you could be wrong :hehe:
Yes 10 does have a backup folder in the location given above.

Fair enough, my friend has TS2010 but I haven't had chance to check the folder layout yet.

I'm hoping to get TS2010 soon.
