Upgrade a video card?

I'm thinking of upgrading my ATI video card to a Model HD4670 PCIE with one meg of memory. I now am running a 500 meg memory card in 2010
But I detect a little hesitation in the smoothness of the trains a very slight stuttering while in motion. When I run the same route and same train in 2009 it runs very smooth so I think maybe the fancy trees in 2010 may be are demanding more video memory. I have a good puter with plenty of ram and a good cpu so I know it's not my computer.
Anyone have any suggestions?

go for hd 5770 r if u have good budget go for 5850
if you want to buy nvidia then gtx 460 is best choice

I would stick with ATI just because of the fact you already have ATI drivers installed. It is a royal PIA to switch from ATI to Nvidia or vice versa. You have to make sure that every single thing from either company is gone before the new card will work properly.

However if you want a headache feel free to switch! I ain't gonna stop ya!

I was going to stick with an ATI card. I had no idea about switching brands could cause problems with installation so I will not change brand now for sure. I'll look for the model you suggest and then make up my mind.

changing brand doesnt cause any installation problem
its not like u are changing from intel to amd .its just changing the name of product and quality else every thing is same

No it messes with the installation because you will have 2 sets of video drivers. One of which is no longer in use. And if you don't get rid of it properly and you miss some of the files it can cause chaos.

Yeah, probably best to stick with an ATI card now, though there are those who feel that they are not as optimised to run with TRS as Nvidia. What's your budget? because if you can run to a 58xx card I would. I've had a 5870 since January and I've never felt with TS10 that it's being pushed beyond its limits, it seems very comfortable dealing with high detailed layouts.

This week I switched from a basic ATI video card (256 MB) to a GeForce 210 (512 MB) and it was painless. The new card was recognized quickly, the old ATI drivers and stuff uninstalled easily, and the new card's drivers and utilities installed easily from DVD. So, it can be done.

So far, Trainz 2009 runs better than before. I'm using OpenGL.

This PC is old; when I upgrade I will get a meatier video card.

I imagine it's possible in Trainz to add so much detail to a layout that just about any card will give up the ghost!
