Updating missing content

Maybe someone can help me out. A while ago, I made a red tower to use as a placeholder for missing content
This was primarily to replace outdated trees. SOME HOW, I got this red tower to show up where ever a particular tree was missing.
Then I could just do a bulk replacement with a current tree.
Now I can't figure out how I did it. If I give my tower the missing tree KUID, Manager won't let me summit it due to it being the wrong KUID
What am I missing? Getting too old I guess:o

Thanks!

I am thinking that tricks we used to use in other versions no longer work in TRS19. You cannot substitute something in config.txt, for example, and expect it to show up on the route. I tried CLONING a substitute tree to the KUID that was missing in Dave Snow's Alma Valley route, and while that appeared to work, I got CTDs every time I tried to do anything with the route, even though I was careful to choose a tree that was smaller in file size than the original, and tried several different ones. I finally had to just had to use "Delete Missing Assets" to get rid of the orange boxes and live with the route as it was, which was OK, because Dave had a lot of other trees on the route. IT was hardly noticeable. It sounds like what you are doing is similar to me, cloning the tower to the KUID of the tree. In theory, that shuold work, but it might make things unstable. I will be interested to follow other answers posted here.

What I do is add an obsolete table with the kuid of the missing asset in the replacement asset. Open route and delete missing assets and save. Revert the replacement asset to its original state.

Thanks... TBH I don't even remember what version I was working in. Thanks for the reply though. I'll let the post soak for a while to see if anyone has any ideas. There's 100's or possibly 1000's of trees from '12 that need updated.

Don't commit it, that creates the wrong kuid message, use file > import content folder, that would be from the editing folder, then commit it in open for edit.

I'm not sure I understand your process. How can I edit the KUID outside the game so it can be imported with the new KUID? Can you explain further?

What I do is I have my dummy asset which is pre installed under one of my kuids, which I named replace this, open it for edit, change the kuid to the object that needs to be replaced, then in Manage Content go file > import content folder, browse to the dummy assets folder in your editing folder, the one that you see in explorer when editing an asset and select the folder, that will then install the asset if the original you are replacing is missing, if it's still installed albeit not compatible then commit it in the editing folder.
Easier if you are not using the default location for the userdata as it's in the hidden users folder, I moved mine to the TRS19 Folder.

This may help?

Then import this folder.

Works perfect! I have dozens to swap out, so it's time consuming, but it sure does the trick...Thanks again
