"Unable to Write Access to User Data Folder'

Although I am identified as using TS2010 and an iPad, I actually have Train Simulator 12 installed on a PC. I originally had Trainz on an Apple desktop, but switched when I discovered the real pros were in the PC world.

I enjoy Murchison 2 tremendously. I have a "Lifetime" ticket. I plan to support Trainz in every way. I especially respect the help that you give this forum. I hope to purchase lots of add-ons and you can count me as an active and supportive member!

Today, for the first fime I got the above (subject line) message. I researched the forum. I checked to see that I am the "administrator" on my PC. One suggestion was to make certain that Trainz had me listed as an administrator also. How do I do this?

Do I need to reinstall Trainz 12? I purchased the special "Anniversary Edition" and can do this. Will I lose the one favorite route I constructed?

Please help.

Thank you.

What OS are you using. You should have the Trainz executable, TADDeamon, TrainzUtil and Content Manager all set to run as Administrator.
In Win7 and 8, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the N3V directory where Trainz is installed. Right click on each file as above, go to Properties, Compatability and click on Run as Administrator.
This is important for many, if not all games/sims. I do it for the main executables for all my programs.

You might think you own your computer and your account might say you are the administrator but this is not sufficient for Microsoft to allow you to write to many areas of your hard disk, to do this the software executables have to be set to run as administrator as CRO says above. There is no need to mess with your antivirus settings!!

Are you nuts?

Yes, a bit, actually.
But do you know there is this thing called "being offline"?

Another possibility would be to move your TS12 folder from the protected Program Directory to the Root Directory. Then locate the Launcher.exe file and create a new shortcut on your desktop. No need to re-install anything.

This is exactly what I've done with TS12 and other older programs. This seems to solve this issue once and for all.

Thank you for all the great suggestions!

Trainz forum folks are the absolute BEST!

Unfortunately, the "boss" just gave me a big project that will keep me busy for some time. But, I will be thinking of getting back to the rail yards soon!

Your new friend,

Joe
