ULOAD to DLS v.s. SHARING a route

If the unmodified assets for the route are on the DLS, then you don't need any permissions to include them in your route. The DLS will find them and include them in the download of the route if the member doesn't already have them (assuming that you've uploaded the route to the DLS). If you're still planning on distributing any content that is on the DLS via CD or any other method, you need to check the config of each asset. Some licenses for items on the DLS specifically say that they are for download from the DLS only and any other distribution methods are prohibited. I know that some of mine have that restriction. Creators can spend hundreds of hours creating something and most certainly want their creative process respected.
Personally, I never modify anything that I'm planning on including in a route that I'm going to upload. It just makes life a lot simpler. Best of luck to you

Mike,

Personally, I never modify anything that I'm planning on including in a route that I'm going to upload.

I have to agree with you.

I started building without any thought to Uploading. Now that I'm getting closer to finishing the first series of routes, I'm seriously considering Uploading. Most of the modifications I made were just darkening objects, locos and rolling stock so they look better on my routes. Now I'm realizing that this is all to MY taste. I'll leave these decisions to the down loaders.

I'll have enough to worry about with a couple of dozen modifications that I will have to gain permission and upload.

Thanks

One question...

Images ... ?? !!

Images are required ?? That is a new info for me.

Please elaborate.
What kind of images are required ? How are these images going to be used ?

I might, if I may, beg to differ with Angelah, where she wrote in part

If you have modified an asset for your own personal use then it is not necessary to ask permission from the original creator, but if you intend to use them within a route for distribution then it is necessary.
Because you have changed the asset it will not be on the DS, only on your PC. Once you have permission then you will need to Upload each asset you have changed in any way whatsoever.[\quote]

Often, when I open an asset for editing in CMP, or open the config.txt file of the asset in a text editor, I find that the creator has already given permission on use of the asset there. If your proposed use falls within the defined conditions, you need not ask permission again.

Its generally considered good practice to ask anyways.
