UK Screenshots (Hi Res Version)

So here is the first shot from a new route I have been working on. A circular route based on something I originally made back in TS2004. I am absolutley LOVING the new TS2022 and Surveyor 2!
what an upgrade...

Great screenshots Nij.
Ashfield is a real station i've used on numerous occasions.
Thanks a lot hotgrove.. there is a lot still to do as I’m probably less than 10 pecrent in.
I did not know about Ashfield it was just a station created in my head.
On the layout I have …
Ashfield
Highbridge
Lakeside
Eastville
Arlington
Monmore Green
And the terminus, New Cross.
There is a connection between all those names ..but I wonder if anyone will figure out what that is.
Regards Nij

I was a regular at Ashfield stadium greyhound racing during the 1980s and i know Monmore Green is a greyhound track so that is my pitch.

More from Cornish Railways the 80s
A 47 arrives with flasks for spent nuclear fuel at Devonport. Back during the Cold war, these operated with two specially modified Mk1 coaches to carry security staff. Obviously these coaches are not on the DLS so I've done the next best thing to recreate

As it heads down to the dockyard it passes what was known as the Admiralty platform, during the 70's the MOD would run specials for Christmas leave to Portsmouth. The platform was last used in 1986 when 50032 'Courageous' received a crest from it's Naval namesake

A class 33 readies to depart the dockyard sidings for the mainline, The yard saw regular MOD freight in the very early 80's with a big upturn during the Falklands War in 82, but come 84 and it was all over apart from nuclear flask movements

Nice work....Those hedgerows take a lot of work with individual trees. It's a pity we don't have any suitable uk splines to make it a bit easier.

I use a couple of hedge splines on my route. domsarto has a good manicured one but I can't remember off the top of my head what the more unkempt version is, sorry.

I use one of the late Clam1952's hedgerows which also has LOD then just place the trees along them which I use about 6 of the same ones from a picklist, of different heights and widths.
Another thing I'm updating as I go down the route, I used to use 4 trees now I use 6 the added 2 (in some areas 3) are taller and wider the others were quite skinny, but it adds a nice variation to the tree lines and wooded areas.

With regards to the issue of UK Trainz seemingly in danger of dying out...

...ultimately, I think the issue comes down to the absolute quantum leap in graphical and simulation capability that has taken place over the last few years. And with that increase in capability comes a huge increase in the complexity of creating content. I've got Train Sim World and it is very, very good. The detail on routes and locos and rolling stock is astounding and remarkably it runs very smoothly.

Trainz has been around for a very long time and much of the UK content, whilst wonderful in its time, has now sadly simply been overtaken by these leaps forward and the expectations that come with them. Any newcomer to the train sim world (pun not intended) will expect PBR textures, detailed and working cabs etc. as standard. I think it's kind of a circular issue because without the high-quality locomotives and rolling stock available people don't want to invest a lot of time in to building realistic routes. Similarly, people don't want to spend a lot of time creating high-quality locomotives and rolling stock without the realistic routes to run them on!

The one advantage I think Trainz has over TSW is the potential for customisation and diversity. I'm a steam fan, for what it's worth. There are two wonderful UK steam era routes for TSW, but these are the exceptions to the rule. The vast majority of UK routes for TSW are just driving modern EMUs from point to point and Dovetail have apparently said they simply won't bother creating any more steam era routes due to the difficulty of accurately recreating the physics of steam locomotives. This is where Trainz could come in and offer something TSW can't or won't. If we had a Black 5 and an 8F to the same quality of dundun92's remarkable diesels that instantly opens up possibilities for steam-era routes.

Old content can also be updated should the original creators allow. Robd's updates to PaulHobb's J15 and J50 look fantastic - just as good as some of the modern payware that's been created recently.
