UK Screenshots (Hi Res Version)

A train of empty wagons on the return trip to the colliery on the Valleyfields LNER layout I recently downloaded. And before anyone points it out I do know that the Robinson ROD has an ex-GWR tender following behind it. The proper tender has texture issues with the coal load rendered all down one side so I don't use it. The GWR tender will do for now until I can sort something else out.

...The proper tender has texture issues with the coal load rendered all down one side so I don't use it...

I've tried to fix the texture issue with that tender but in vain! Only the original author, lielestosbrat, can fix it - a great shame, such a potentially good asset, it's been around almost ten years but no sign of a fix, that is unless someone else has fixed it in the meantime?

Great shots!

Rob.

Thanks Rob, - I kind of have this thing about running coal trains.

I was thinking of purchasing one of Darlington Works Robinson O4's both to give me another class variation as well as a proper tender. I do find it difficult to understand though how a model with a mistake like that could be left so long on the DLS without being corrected. The locomotive itself is a really great model with working inside valve gear and other nice detailing.

Working on Brighton to London/Littlehampton/Eastboure taking in Newhaven Harbour and using a bit of creative licence by constructing a container facility at Three Bridges to service Newhaven Harbour terminal. Also have played around with Ardingly Branch Line and made it productive. Image here is Brighton Terminal approach...fune getting third rail right.

Thanks very much Rob. I thought I'd give fixing the tender a go so i followed the instructions and it worked! Since I'd planned on having at least four of the Robinson 2-8-0's working on the layout a proper tender was kind of important.
Thanks too for the offer of a repaired CDP, - that was very kind of you.

Brighton Line under construction. Here we see 6carr DTCL emerging from Clayton Tunnel headed for Brighton. The old castle towrers guarding the tunnel are not quite authentic but you'll get the gist.
Cheers

Here's another where the creation of a container facility was organised at Three Bridges. The facility will service Newhaven Harbour export distribution depot. Using a bit of creative licence for the route, not too much but enough to make it interesting.

Every time I see track with a conductor rail I can't help but think 'Broad Gauge'. I do like the Clayton Tunnel screenshot, but the container wharf is all a little too Star Wars (ie. hi-tech and modern) for me.

Cheers KotangaGirl, perhaps a few older style buildings at that Three Bridges container depot might take the edge off its modernity. Your comment made me also rethink Newhaven Harbour's appearance. Perhaps there too a few historical elements might be required.

I think that would be a good move. I'm unashamedly pre-war steam era in my modelling, but it seemed to me that even with a modern container wharf it would be rare for an area to be completely swept clean of older buildings. I'm not at all familiar with Newhaven so I'm commenting from a general sense of how the wharf area might be rather than actual knowledge of the prototype.

It always interesting to see someones take on a location you know. I used to work in Three Bridges and travelled by train from London Victoria to Three Bridges by train a number of times a week. Perhaps not a bad location for a terminal with good motorway links etc, but i am not sure the locals would approve of the giant crane. Any way its a virtual world and we can do what we like...Have fun, that's the most important. I like the Clayton Tunnel entrance, where else would you find a castle as a tunnel entrance.

Hey there heimdall, the Brighton route at this stage will not take into account Three Bridges station and really concludes with a couple of basic portals being the London entry/exit points. However, the Three Bridges container [virtual world licence as you say] facility is located to the west of those portals. Nearest station north will be Haywards Heath and I have given the Ardingly branch line some production also. Making the Brighton terminus was a challenge especially with third rail over junctions, of which there are plenty.

I used to be a signalman at Hove 'A' box controlling the Littlehampton/Portsmouth to Victoria/Brighton junction and always wanted to do this route. It extends to Eastbourne and to the west Littlehampton [again as portals] I have included Seaford Station and Newhaven Town and Harbour. Once finished I will work on V2 and include both Littlehampton and Bognor Regis stations as well as Eastbourne Station.

Its not a big route but will be a busy one. Never thought of a motorway link...will seriously consider that.
Thanks for your comment and interest.
Val.
