The gasometer was still there when this was taken earlier this year, as far as I'm aware it's still there today.

If you care to take a look on Google Earth, you will see that Skegness does indeed have
6 platforms, not
4.

Here is a photo taken in 2008.
Quite an interesting discussion going on here, which I've only just caught up with. This photograph above is in fact one I took, (photo - Dave Hitchborne) as is the photograph which appears in the link. (I'm a member of Geograph, see my signature) The platforms are still as above, but not all are used. In fact only one is normally used.
The gasometer is still there and in fact I have recently stood right next to it and photographed it, but not uploaded the photo to Geograph. What isn't there anymore, is the station building. It has recently been demolished and Network Rail have no plans to erect a new one, however, should anyone wish to build one, they might consider it.
On another note, the crossing gates at Wainfleet have been replaced by full barriers. Also, a batch of Superailers and the NTC -
http://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=21009681 have replaced or re-laid track and new steel sleepers or old concrete ones have been laid in place of the wooden ones.
To take the 2008 photograph, I had to be escorted up the platform by the Stationmaster. This year I tried to duplicate the shot, but a member of staff wouldn't allow me to. "More than my job's worth".
Platform one was demolished in the '80s, as was the goods yard and sheds.
