UK Caravans

The West Somerset Railway
I think its about time i posted my progress on my range of UK caravans. At the moment they are in 3 different colours (cream, light blue and light green). The range also includes road, T junctions, other caravan park buildings and hopefully splines of the caravans if its wanted. I hope to get them onto the DLS in a few days to a week, and i hope you like them.

Im also having a few problems with the wheels. They look like they've been inverted. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this i would love to here. BTW, I cloned it from the first one.

Please feel free to post your opinion and thought on here, as they will be appreciated.

Oh, sorry John, didn't see your post.

Im working on Gmax. And what do you mean by "normals"

thanks

GMAX does strange and mysterious things from time to time to make your life interesting and you need to know the right incantations to get it to work nicely. I can remember the Blender ones but I've forgotten the GMAX ones, Paul Hobbs GMAX tutorials talk about it and resetting something or other, or I'm certain that someone will be along shortly to say its all very simple and you just have to highlight something and click on a button somewhere.

Cheerio John

Ok, thanks John. It is annoying, isn't it:hehe: i will take a look at the tutorials and see if that will fix it.

Meanwhile, i've exported the new caravans and got them into the game.

These are very nice models and will be of great help in creating a mobile home park or holiday complex. They are, of course, essentially static, not for towing, and wheels are simjply a legal necessity so that they can be classed as caravans.

Have you thought of making any touring caravans (ie. for towing) or even better, as far as I'm concerned, motorhomes - which come in a great variety of models and sizes?

When you say "towing", do you mean attached to a car, or just with a hook for towing. As i have found out, i can't make cars, my attempts look awful:hehe: . And yes, i have thought about making motorhomes, hopefully in the near future. Is there any one in particular that you were thinking of Ray? And if anyone has any ideas on what to make, i'd love to here them.

Can you run an eye over wheel problem? You probably know the GMAX incantations better than I.

Thanks John

hi mate
are you looking at making some with 2 or 3 axles?
over here the single axle big ones are not allowed to be towed behind a vehicle

thanks
ron

Thanks for the replys,

Ron, I will start that in a minute
Paul, I will do that now...

@privite - yes, I actually meant the smaller caravans which could be towed by a car; I believe the larger ones like those you have made must be towed by a commercial vehicle or transported as a load. There are some which are made in two halves, ie. split down the middle, and are transported with a cover over what would be an open side. Ones similar to this have been used for many years in the UK as mobile classrooms for schools - some secondary schools I have known had more mobiles than permanent classrooms - as many as 15 or more.

As for motorhomes, my particular interest is in AutoSleepers, especially those with moulded fibregalss bodies designed by William Towns, who I believe also designed Aston-Martins. We owned one for many years! I would have a go myself, but I've never had a tried making models of cars or similar.

John, I'm still very much a learner with GMax and have only tried wheels once -they were fixed (non-revolving) and turned out back to front on one side of my (very basic) models of old-time Belgian trams. I must really get to grips with animation some time!

I thought you may have been thinking of the smaller ones. Luckily, the caravans shown in the screenshot have hooks too, so it was worth it. As for the autosleepers, i will take a look at them and see what i can do, but like you, i have never attepted cars.
