Uisng PEVs Mesh Viewer to Create Thumbnails

dricketts

Trainz Luvr since 2004
I have a new PC where the recommended resolution is 1920 x 1080. I've noticed several programs displaying quirky results including PEVs mesh viewer. When I use it to create a thumbnails I get the results below. The asset is not centered and you can see part of the text menu of the mesh viewer software. I suspect my screen resolution has something to do with these results because changing produces mixed results. None satisfactory though.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to get PEVs tool to make thumbnails with my 1920 x 1080 resolution?

Derrick, I've noticed this also. But it doesn't do that all the time. It comes out really bad if you take the shot real fast. I usually hold the button down for a second and that seems to "give it time" to take the picture! LOL!

Hope that helps.

Dave

PS... another alternative is to take a screen capture (prt scr button) and then paste it into the old screenshot picture.

Thanks Dave but I'm sure I'm following you. The only way I know of to create thumbnails is right clicking in PEVs mesh viewer. But I get thumbnails like the second pic. Does PEV's mesh viewer not work with high DPI displays?

Looks like something has changed in Windows. My code for thumbnails relied on a window property that allowed auto resizing of a bitmap image. Looks like that has disappeared.

I'll chase up what we do in AssetX.. Andi06 used a different method and that is working.

Thanks for posting on this.. It obviously needs fixing.

Thanks for the quick response Peter. So are you saying that your Mesh Viewer and Asset X are not playing well with Windows 8.1? If so that's ok I'll just wait for your update and stop researching how to fix my screen resolution. :) Thanks again for all your tools. They have been a huge asset t the community.

Regardless how good PEV's program will be (after Peter will modify it, thank you Peter, your programs are tops), how hard or difficult or how easy is it to create any .JPG 240x180 with any paint program? Surely, in this day and age, most, if not all people would have had to use some paint program (even the buildin M$ paint in Windows) sometimes in their life to resize and touch up (photos), create texture maps (item creators, reskinners, screenshot makers etc.) and so on.

This is no slur at PEV's excellent mesh viewer. Most, if not all people using Trainz know how to take a screenshot in it and where to find these in Trainz to create a thumbnail picture from. If you do not know, read its HELP or manual.

PS If reducing a large picture to a small size one like a thumbnail size will most of the time get some "quirky" results.

Over the past few months I have been writing a new render engine for my mesh viewer. I want to support all trainz material types.

Additionally, I have made changes to the thumbnail code so that the image grabber for thumbnails points directly to the panel where the objects are rendered. (Previously it pointed to the window.) This should fix the problems that OP has experienced.

I have not released this version as yet because the new render code does not work correctly with AMD graphics cards, so more work is needed.
