Tunnels in 2012

I made some tunnels in 2010 that worked fine. Now, in 2012, I cannot attach adjoining track to them. I transferred my route that contains the tunnels from 2010 to 2012, and everything is OK until I separate the track from the tunnels, and then I can't re-attach the track:(.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this, or might be able to explain what is happening?

BTW, regarding the new forum, all I can see is that it looks different. All the problems I had before are still there.

Thanks,
Mick Berg.

Hi Mick sorry dont have the answer but having the same porblem in TRS12 (your not alone) ...... Thanks rdann (halfmoon)

All the tunnels that I made for TRS2006 and transferred into TS12 work fine, except for the warnings in CM, in their wisdom they have changed the way tunnels (and bridges for that matter) are done in the config.txt file.

I have worked out how to update some bridges, the ones that do not have an Initiator or terminator, but as for tunnels, nothing yet. I am still working on it though. :)

I don't add initiators or terminators to my tunnels, I just make the portals as scenery objects. And my tunnels are of kind "bridge".
I look forward to your findings.
Thanks,
Mick Berg.

I've never tried making a tunnel or bridge without an initiator and a terminator. Even if it dosen't have a portal, which I've made some, have an initiator and a terminator. They just may look like the rest of the tunnel instead of looking like a portal if I don't want a portal on it. Download my latest tunnels and bridges for reference if you want. They were made in 10 and they all work just fine. And they are both kind bridge whether they are a bridge or a tunnel.

If you have a problematic tunnel, just run a totally independent track 0.02m, or 0.20m higher, placing it right over top of the tunnel track, (Covering it up).

Using the: HoldShift / Don't HoldShift KB keys makes track not click together like magnets.

Yea you could certainly use that work around but that dosen't fix the problem.

Hi Mick,

I have not had any luck getting tunnels (or bridges) to work that have the Initiator and Terminator used, but for bridges that don't have these then you could try this type of config.txt file and see if it works, it uses the mesh-table:

Code:

That is for TS12 and works without warnings or errors in CM, naturally change where you have to so it suits what you need, if you have trouble by all means post your config.txt and i'll have a look for you. Hope this helps... :)

I had the same problem, so I decided to lay my own track on top, its just as quick if you use the straighten tool then just connect the bits between as you would normally... saved a lot of time messing around.

Yes lay the track on top.. but use HP dark wood bridgesound. It gives the effect that the train makes a tunnel noise when going through. I use this extensively creating a better sound effect since several years ago. In fact I fail to see why this has not been implemented yet by content creators: Any takers?

I can't see anything wrong with that config.txt file, a few tags that could be removed but other then that it should work, maybe go back in build number and see if it works...

That is from a tunnel I have, it works fine in TS12, but in CM I get 1 warning, Warning: This asset uses an obsolete trainz-build number. Trainz-build numbers below 2.7 are no longer supported.

If I change the build number to higher I get more errors and warnings, I am still working on this asset trying to get it to work error/warning free.

Great minds think alike! I'm using the same technique, but a darkened version to make it look a bit better in a tunnel!!

Hello Mick

Could you do me a favor and download one of my bridges, which is built the same as a tunnel and see if you have the same track disconnect problem with it in 12, I'm just curious, and I don't have 12. The kuid number is 39134:100396 Bridge Shaughnessy East Portal Viaduct

Will do, and as Sarah would say (I hear she's an avid Trainz fan - not ) I'll get back to you.

Mick.

Sorry it took so long. It works fine.

I was considering re-making my tunnels with Blender, so hopefully the problem will go away.

Thanks Mick for checking and I'm glad there's no problem with them.
Before you rebuild yours, try this. On the Trackoffsets change the 0.01 to 0.01,0 and see if that makes any difference. That's for a single track bridge/tunnel.

This problem applies to any tunnels, it seems. I am using a version of ECML that was started in 2010 so I imported it into 2012. I am trying to make some alterations to the tunnels (replacing the Gasworks tunnels with the Westwood tunnel) and now the different tracks won't join. It's a bit of a disaster.
BTW I really like the scripting in the Westwood tunnels that puts your train into cab view as you go through the tunnel. Can that script be used with other tunnels?
Thanks,
Mick.

For most of the day now I have been reading all the posts & info I can find on how to build a tunnel....still it gets covered up when I go to make my hill to cover it!!! I must be doing something wrong...I ma out of sources to go to....HELP PLEASE~~:(

Ok I have raised the the vex points a tad, I ahve put splines in as the manual say's "Once you have 3 spline points in a tunnel", have watched video of it but the guy must have been using 06 trainz ....I have put bend's in it...

I could help much with tunnels ... I use the tunnel as a spline, but I don't connect track to it ... I use straight single track to go independently right over the tunnel track.

Feel free to PM me ... but I only use TRS2006

I never use snap to grid tunnels ... unless I disable the dighole, by changing the tunnel height to -1, in the config file.
