TS2010: Tunnels have a limited length? (The tunnels that snap to the grid)

I was working on a layout and it seems that tunnels that snap to the grid and are meant to be waterproof, have a limited set distance. The sides seem to disappear after a certain distance, even if you add the tunnel track as several different splines.
Is that true that these tunnels that snap to the grid have a limited length, before you need to add different track?

Snap to Grid tunnels can be made to not snap to grid by changing the height in the config file.

Snap to Grid was one of the most pointless ideas ... Why make something snap to the grid ? ? ?

For the dig holes, it they snap to grid (back in the day) then your guaranteed to have a clean hole for the tunnel.

I agree that "snap to grid" is a real irritation - the grid is never where you want it to be when your track reaches the tunnel entrance - but, if you do need to use it for whatever reason, don't expect your tunnel to be waterproof. I didn't have a problem with length but my longest tunnel was only about 8 kms which isn't long by some standards. However what I did find (and never knew the reason) was that, in long tunnels, you would get a flash of light as if the tunnel had a gash in it. It didn't stop the train - just looked silly. Another irritation, bearing in mind that I'm working in TRS2006 with its limited viewing distance, was that I had to make the tunnel on a very slight curve so that you couldn't see the end of the world when you were driving. A white splodge at the far end of your view definietely doesn't look right.

All the best

Snap to grid is because Trainz can only make a hole in the baseboard for the tunnel in a grid square.
