TS2010, mixed reviews

Trainz Addict
Hi;
Perhaps this thread doesn't belong in this section, but in reality, it's all about hardware.

I am curious as to why I get so much faster and generally better looking scenery in World of Subways, New York Underground, PATH than I do in TS2010.

I do understand that these two games are two different animals, but I am really starting to throw angry comments towards my hardware because of poor performance in TS2009 and 2010, but at the same time, WOS, running in HI mode performs so much better.

Specifically, scenes change much more smoothly in WOS than it TS. There are no sporadic freezes in WOS as there are in TS.
I get much better scenery rendition. No jagged or bright edges while trains are moving in WOS, but in TS, I always get these bright or jagged edges to splines (roads, bridges, etc) when viewed at some distance.

This is not to make any mention of sound. TS sound has always been terrible. Track sound is never consistent with train speed or the type of track. Junction sound is so phony I have to laugh at it.

WOS is what I would love Trainz to be. Why can't this happen?
Is it because WOS is a fixed route sim, while TS has unlimited content?
I really can't see why this would make any difference for the specific route you are driving.
It just seems to me that Trainz is running on a very old engine, and is going to need a complete overhaul (spelled - REBUILD) before the next version is released.

I cannot afford to upgrade my computer system right now, and am happy that at least I can still get an enjoyable train sim running on it.
Sorry guys; I really do love Trainz, mostly because my favorite activity is building a route, not running it.
I just wish that TS2010 had been a bran-new build, not patchwork on the old.

I can tell you all with confidence and certainty that TS2010 is by far the best build of Trainz I have ever seen, but is still a far cry short of more recent sims like World of Subways.
Unless the next version of Trainz is a bran-new product, running on a different engine with all bran-new code, I will be sticking with TS2010 for the foreseeable future.

It seems to me that the sound side of the sim trainz has been a low priority. Perhaps this is necesary compromise though to keep the frame rate usable.
You can't have everything, yet.

Trainz is open environment rather than closed environment. The difference is each screen is given a limit for poly and textures and the artist creating the route works within these limits to create a reasonable looking result. If you are a skilled route builder you can actually do the same in Trainz by carefully selecting well performing assets and placing them carefully. I think TS2009/10 will show you any resource hogs in the layout.

I guess that's the price we pay for an open system, but I wouldn't enjoy Trainz if it were not. I enjoy the World of Subways too, but for different reasons than I enjoy Trainz.

I will have to turn on the show performance data. I have it turned off by default, but maybe it could shed some light on any issues I have.
