TS2010 goes On-Line Automatically

Hi, I finally got TS2010 to work on my computer, but every time I start it, it wants to go on line with my Dial-Up ISP service.

Question: How do you disable the program from going on line, by itself, when you don't want it to?

Thanks,

Al

It has been a long time since I used a dial-up connection. I don't know if there is a way of turning off this feature (Trainz is basically checking the DLS for updates for any of your downloaded assets - this is actually a useful feature that would probably work best on broadband) but if it finds no internet connection (click Cancel on the dial-up requester????) it will give up the attempt.

Hi pware and danny5, Thanks for the replies.

Tried disabling Global Interface Addons, Chat interface, but no good. I discovered my Build # is 42203, which is out of date. I need SP-3 and the SP-3 Hot-Fix. But the weird thing about this is, TS2010 "wanted" to go on line to find this patch, BEFORE it even knew it needed a patch! Guess the program is set up to "look" for updates automatically.

Sure hope I don't have to "go on-line" everytime I want to run TS2010. I also have another computer that is not capable of going on-line at all, and TS2010 doesn't "try" to go on-line at all. Maybe the patches will fix this.

Sure glad you all are here to help me! Thanks again.

Try taking your name and password away from CMP in the Internet tab. I seem to remember that this will keep Trainz from trying to access the network. Failing that, I am fairly sure that your OS (whatever it may be) has a global Internet applet where you can check an option to "Never dial up a connection".This exists all the way up from Windows 95.

Try this as I expect it's picking up the IE settings.

IE >Tools >Internet Options > Connections > Never Dial

That will allow you to make your connection manually using whatever your ISP gives you, probably a connect icon.

Yeah. That was it. Going through IE works just as well as Control Panel -> Network Connections (or Network and Sharing Center).

Thanks Guys, I'll give it a try. But, if I set IE or Firefox to never dial a connection, I must then uncheck it to dial out. Has to be a better way. I did DL the two SP-3 patches for TS2010 and that might change its behavior.

As advised above, the best thing to do this is to remove your username and password from the relevant boxes in the Trainz Options box (click Options on the Launcher to access this).

Be aware that any routes/sessions you create whilst this is in effect are likely to not have your User ID.

No you don't, you click on the connect icon as I said, it just stops IE and most other things from dialing without you initiating the connection. Start your internet connection and then launch whatever program needs to use it including browsers IE etc. Removing the tick does not stop you starting your dialup internet connection in the "proper I am in control of it" way. Did that way for many years before broadband came along.
