Trying To Create Trains

If anybody is familiar with creating trains I desperately need help. Gmax is no longer acceptable, I can't find 3ds Max anywhere, and Blender is a joke. If anyone knows a website where I can download it please tell me. I don't want help from world of trainz. Their directions and tutorials are to complex and confusing, for me being a beginner I need some simple tools that will help me create quality trains like the ones on world of trainz. If anybody can give me thorough assistance of finding 3ds Max and step by step instructions that are clear and simple for me, a beginner to understand, that would be awesome.

gmax, believe it or not, is actually still used by most content creators here. i personaly find it the easiest and there really is nothing else that ive heard of that will export to trainz. you can go sketch-up to gmax to trainz though

Gmax is still available and I would guess is still the program used by most creators although many are moving to Blender. 3ds will cost you several thousand dollars to purchase as it's really intended for the professional creator. If you find the tutorials on World of Trainz too complicated, then I'm not sure that you have the patience to learn content creation as creation is a complicated process. Very simple objects can be done in a matter of a few hours, but train cars and locomotives can take weeks, months or even years to develop depending on how much free time that you have to devote to the process.

I wish you the best of luck, but before starting with traincars and locomotives, I suggest that you start with some simple static objects to practice your skills. I don't believe that any creator here started out making quality traincars as their first creations.

You get Max from AutoDesk as soon as you part with (I think) 3500 bucks. Be aware though that there is no exporter for the latest versions. If Blender and GMax are not acceptable then probably your only alternative is Sketchup, which also has no exporter (but with a bit of a fight you can use Blender to export the model, but then you've already ruled that out).

In a nutshell, you are stuffed.

Unfortunately, you're going to have to go through the mundane task of learning whatever modeling program you choose. There are no one click options for building models and a good understanding of the program is needed.

This guy put together a neat, easy to follow tutorial on how to set up and use Blender. It's not Trainz related but will help in understanding Blender and building some simple models. Once you get that down you could start on what you want to build using these techniques.

Also, have you read Content Creation Guides yet. It, and quite a bit of other stuff is available from the learning center. Follow the community links on the download station page to find them.

Modeling Art Sources

I would like to offer the suggestion of acquiring the Content Creation Art Sources from Auran. If modeling is proving difficult, maybe some change up in art sources on content already created would suffice.
