TRS2010 Installing as an addon?

The postie delivered my DVD copy yesterday  but when I click on the setup program it is asking if I want to install as a standalone program or as an addon to my existing installation (TRS2009).

I guess the standalone option installs as a completely separate program but does the second option overwrite my TRS2009 installation? I'm currently building a large route in TRS2009 and don't want that to turn to custard.

I installed Treez as an addon recently but I find difficult to believe that TRS2010 is an addon.

There's no readme files on the DVDs and no installation instructions in the manual.

My inclination is to install it as a new or separate program. I vaguely remember having some issues updating from TRS2006 to TRS2009.

I've already backed up my content.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

While I am having problems with my DVD copy, the first part asks if you wish to install as an Add-On or Stand-Alone version. From memory the answer is NO and that makes it a Stand-Alone. The program to my thinking will not touch any other Trainz version you are using e.g. 2009.

Backing up is a good idea, particular to transfer stuff over to 2010 when your ready.

Lets us know how you go.

Craig,
TRS2010 installed OK as a separate installation and the diagnostics were all green. There was a cryptic note about not using two monitors else the display will suffer. I have only monitor and, AFAIK, the graphics software thinks I have only one as well.

I tried one of the scenarios and all looked well. Not sure I like the changed interface but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Graphics looked smoother and the annoying graphics problem I had with some splines - particularly trees and telegraph lines seems to have gone. I'm yet to import any of my TRS2009 routes so that will be interesting. Then I'll have the problem of whether to continue in TRS2009 or migrate further development to TRS2010. Maybe I'll try some minor changes and then see what happens.

Loading TRS2010 is slower than TRS2009 - at least straight of the box. Maybe there is some caching I can enable.

FWIW I'm running this on an I7 processor, a RADEON 4870 graphics card and Windows 7 (64bit).
