If I buy and install TRS2009 can I transfer ( i know how to do it ) my TRS2006 local folder and have everything working ok ?
Also will the layouts I have run better in 09 than in 06 ?
Cheers
PJ

For tranferring the local folder, no. Not in the same way as backing it up, or going from TRS06 to the TC's anyway. TS2009 uses a completely different setup for the local folder.

However, TS2009 can 'import' the local folder. This is done by using Content Manager to import, then commit, the local folder.

Best to leave the commit overnight.

As for performance. It depends on a fair bit. Mostly you will see a performance increase in compatibility mode, even if it is a very small increase. In native mode (doesn't look as good at this stage, due to alpha channel changes, which 'breaks' trees and other various objects) you will see a large performance increase in most layouts, even very high detail ones. At least, this is what I've found including on my own layouts.

Hi Zek or John,

I have just ordered Ts2009, can you tell me if individual items are recognisable before importing with CMP2? In other words I don't want to import the whole of my TRS2006 local file, only some of the assets, but do I have to write down a list of kuids before doing this or are they recognisable by name.

Cheers,

Hi Bill
If you only want to import certain items, go into TRS2006's Content Manager, and open the items that you want for edit. Then import these into TS09. You don't need to worry about built-in items for the most part.

Hi Zec,

Thanks for the reply, Now you have told me I should have known, just had a senior moment. So if I open for edit all the items I want in 2009, with 2006 CMP it will put them in the edit folder and I can import them from there.
So simple when your mind is working.
