TRS 2009 Steam + Addon's=???

The title either has your attention or not. My question pop's up in relation to the new add-on's and future games.

If we buy Trainz 2009 off of Steam will the add-on we buy from Auran be able to be installed over the Steam version?

Also as a side note Trainz 2009 is for sale on Steam which is owned and run by Valve.

This question really came about because I was thinking about buying L4D2 and then Trainz 2009 on Steam but then the thought occured to me that maybe I can't upgrade Trainz on Steam like I could if I bought it from Auran.

So now the question arises. If you buy Trainz 2009 from Steam can you install the add-on's over it like if you had just bought it from Auran?

Unfortunately due to the way steam works, it cannot be patched in the same way as if it was bought from Auran or in a store. Due to the Trainz Packs (Classic Cabon City, Murchison 2, Settle & Carlisle, Treez) require patching to function correctly they WILL NOT work with the Steam version of Trainz Simulator 2009. This is something that we are going to be looking at in the future however at the moment our priority is the Addon Packs.

I have no axe to grind here but... as a retired IT pro I get asked to fix friends PC's from time to time and when I see "Steam" downloads on a machine I shudder - they seem to require the machine to connect to their internet site all the time and eat up about 20% of your computing power doing so (even offline).

In my view - avoid.

Just my opinion.......
