TRS 2004 Problems

I am having major problems with my TRS 2004 game. Big enough were I want to throw it away and buy a new one. The sad thing about is I have TRS 2004 Version 2.4, Build 2365, the most advanced of the TRS2004 collection and it doesn't work at all. I download trains with all the dependencies without errors or warnings, some of them may be faulty with thread/scrpit excecptions or missing dependencies but work in the later versions, and are compatible with this game and some doesn't even show up in the railyard. Then I download searchlight signals and I put it on the map and there is not even a green, yellow, or red light, just the explanation of why the signal has green, yellow, or red. Then I go to driver setup to make a session for driver and I click on driver setup, startup options, or driver commands and then they just dissapear. Then I go into driver mode and the controls, throttle, time, waybills or any of the items that are supposed to be displayed aren't even there I then turn the headlight on and the shadow of the headlight comes on but the headlight doesn't show, it's like if it is still off. I don't know what to do.

Don't chuck it

Don't throw it away, it's not the game, it's something to do with how it's setup I should think.
What version of the OS are you using for a start, because 2004 has problems with some, Vista for a start.
Post how your Trainz is setup, like are you using Open GL or the other option.
And your PC specs, although I wouldn't have thought it sounded like that sort of problem.
To help you people here will need a lot more info than you have supplied. Not about what Trainz isn't doing necessarily either.
When you installed was your Anti-virus switched off, that's a for instance.

I agree there - most problems are relating to issues with either operating systems (especially Windows Vista/7, which require TRS2004 to be run in admin mode) or similar.

Also, there may be a problem with some of your assets (possibly assets designed for a later version?)

I have a dell desktop with windows vista. I use the OS version I have is OS:C. Yes I do use Jet Open GL. I don't know if there was even an anti-virus program installed on the computer when I installed this game.

OK, next question. Are you running Trainz in admin mode? (You have stated you are using Windows Vista, which is tighter on security than previous versions of Windows - same with Windows 7)

The no I don't part was saying I don't run TRS 2004 as an administrator. The OS I use is on the local disk. The file system is NFTS. Manufactured by Standard Disk Drives. Does that help?

OK, you will need to follow the following instructions:

1.Right-click the TRS2004 shortcut.
2.Click Properties.
3.Click Compatibility.
4.Click in the box labelled 'Run this program as administrator'
5.Click OK.

This should either rectify the problem, or reduce it.

Okay i got it to work now that I updated the DirectX 9.0 and the Nvidia Jet Open GL. Only problem is now, the headlights shadow/glow is the only thing that shows when it is in light. But at night time the entire headlight system works. In daylight the shadow/glow appears, but the headlight is very dim, dim enough to make it seem like it is not even on. How do I fix that problem. It was on an ATSF F7 which is a built-in item.

I still have some problems with my train cars. I downloaded Amtrak F40PH and it says the CDP Package was successfully installed but doesn't show up in the game and it has all of it's dependencies installed.

Dependencies

I still have some problems with my train cars. I downloaded Amtrak F40PH and it says the CDP Package was successfully installed but doesn't show up in the game and it has all of it's dependencies installed.

I would still be inclined to think there is a dependency missing there, that is the normal reason something refuses to show in 2004.
Some dendencies are difficult to find (I wish creators wouldn't do that) and need a lot of hunting down. Sometimes (not often fortunately) assets are not on the DS.
Have you download TrainzObjects?
Have you got TrainzDownloaderPro? This will get every asset needed for a loco for you and it's very reliable.
Both are free utilities.
I have 2004 running on XP amd W7 without any problems, but I run Trainz in W7 as Administrator. That is not necessary with XP.
Go get those utilities, they are VERY handy.

One other thing to check is that you don't have any dependencies with a newer version number. Sometimes an asset is updated with a newer version of trainz so has the newer version build. The asset wont show as missing because it only checks the main part of the kuid and not the version number.
