Trouble seeing images loaded to hostthenpost

Yeah, it's an old argument from people who don't understand how it works - when you open any web page you're not actually looking at it on the internet, it downloads to a temp file on your computer and that's what actually displays on your monitor. Got high speed cable and lots of RAM it happens in the blink of an eye, got a slower connection and less RAM any page with more than 1 or 2 megabytes on it will take a long time to load because it's downloading. Yet people still persist in thinking the restriction should be on image size in pixels rather than file size in kilobytes. Couple comparison examples I made from my oldest daughter's latest Christmas pic;

That one would make most happy because it's 800x600, this one;

They would complain about because it's 1024x768. But if the objective is to save bandwidth the larger picture does a better job because it's a compressed JPG with a file size of 76 kilobytes, the 800x600 is an uncompressed PNG with a file size of 750 kilobytes - the "smaller" image is actually 10 times larger where it counts for bandwidth and loading times. There is some tradeoff in quality for JPG compression, but even 10% compression helps a lot with little loss in quality.

I use PSP7 JPEG Optimizer, if your image editing program doesn't have some kind of compression output you can use convim;

Second from left top row. If you never had any of Martin Wright's utilities before you'll need to install the DLL package. I also recommend DXTBmp for reskinners since it's an easy way to separate alpha transparency from the main image to edit each one independently in any image editor. FYI don't use compression on TGA files for reskinning, Trainz don't like compressed TGA files.

This has just started happening to me. Seems to be only those that are using Hostthenpost. Tried one of the suggestions above of opening up in separate window/tab using RMB and all I get is their banner asking me which image I wish to upload. Has anyone found any other solutions to this as I feel I am missing out on some teriffic screenshots.
Thanks
Glen

Just to add to this conundrum. I have always used IE for internet browsing. I just had a thought and tried Google Chrome and all the screens show up. Every one that I couldn't see before is now totally revealed.I don't know if this helps any of the tech savy to solve this problem but thought I would post it just in case it sheds any light.
Regards
Glen

I'm gonna add to this thread too. I use Kaspersky and Internet Explorer. Since upgrading form Kaspersky 2012 to 2013, HostThenPost images are now showing, including my 2 HostThenPost signature images.

I try to edit my Dad's Joomla website in Internet Explorer, and all the files hosted on the site (images and movies) don't load, but they load fine in Firefox. so I use Firefox for editing Dad's site. I wonder if that's Kaspersky related?

Kieran.

I use Photobucket for my Trainz pics which works reasonably well for me. Photobucket appears to work best with smaller images but I've never tried compressing them.

I also have a nifty screen capture program called Snap6 from Ashampoo. Snap6 doesn't work well with Trainz screenshots but is fantastic for capturing other windows. I believe it does video capture as well but that's too complex for me. :o

I'm back using IE after using Chrome for a year or so. For some reason Chrome messes up my download manager (DAP) which is a shame because I prefer Chrome. Haven't used Firefox for a while.

I use photobucket and compress jpgs to 90% before uploading. 10% isn't much for one image, but over a full screenshots page in the forum it adds up to the equivalent one or two less pics to download. The visual difference is so close to zip it doesn't matter.

There is an option in P'Bucket which allows bigger images on a standard (free) account. My screenies are all cropped 1600 x 900 or 1600 x 750.....
