Trigger Question

I want to set up a trigger before each road crossing so that when a train goes over the trigger it will cause the train to sound its horn. I have a command set up in the schedule library to make the proper crossing horn sound, but I don't know how to set up the trigger to cause the command to operate. Maybe I'm trying to do this the wrong way. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated...

Play a sound file driver command kuid:121843:900031
or use the Whistle sign rule kuid:70049:20001 in conjunction with whistle signs that use this rule or whistle signs that have bloodnoks whistle sign script.

Invisible horns

There are 2 that I know of
Autohornz kuid 200726 24033
Sound horn kuid2:60850:23113:4

Thanks all for the replies. For some reason when I try to use the Whistle Sign Rule and place a whistle sign on the track and name the sign, the named sign doesn't show up in the Whistle Sign Rule. I found the WhistleSignal Kuid2:46162:2350010:1 and named it, and it does show up in the Whistle Sign Rule and works OK. I just thought there must be some way to use just a trigger that the train would cause to operate a child rule to "Copy Commands" from my Schedule Library of the driver commands that I have set up with the hornz commands that would use the whistle patterns that I want to use. Oh well, I may have to settle for just the Blow Horn Twice Rule....

From memory, I think the Whistle Sign rule may also work with trackmarks.

Shane
Yeah, Shane you are right, the rule does work with trackmarks. I just haven't had much luck with the rule. I set it to blow the whistle twice, but sometimes it blows once and sometimes it blows once and then a long delay and blows it again, after it is all the way past the grade crossing. Guess I will just have to be pleased with no whistle at grade crossings. Guess I am just to particular. I would like to make it as realistic as possible. Thanks for the reply....

It may be a little awkward, but have you tried placing a track-mark, telling the train to drive via it and then insert 2 "hornz" commands immediately afterwards?

This may work but really I have no idea. The track-mark may need to be a little before the crossing because I don't know how far the train needs to go over the track-mark to move onto the next command.

Just my 2 cents,

Thanks BigThing, I have tried the trackmark thing you mentioned and it does work. Here in the USA a train approching a grade crossing whistles 2 long 1 short and 1 long for the approach. I set up with the Hornz command to do this but it takes too much time to do all the Hornz commands that the train hesitates too long to do the whistle pattern. I sure appreciate the reply...

Stagecoach, do you know where I can find train whistle patterns for the USA in the wav file format. I have been googling for them, but haven't had any luck yet...Thanks....

There used to be a trigger rule that let you set bells and horns for trains as they crossed over a trigger. The rule was edited in an HTML interface. I can't recall what it is called because it didn't work very well.

The problem with it was the rule would work only once, and any other train passing over the trigger would not set the horn to blow again. The rule did, however, have the US horn pattern for it though.

If you can find this rule, then you could apply the sounds to a trackmark instead of a trigger and see if this works.

alphamulti - triggersounds kuid:388382:1394 might be the one you are refering to. Railworks also have some horn files for download.
