Translating a track diagram?

Now T:ANE I can get into
I stumbled across an old track diagram of the Milwaukee Road's junction/yard in Rondout, IL.

I can understand the images, and the length labels, but what are various the "A-(number)" and "FX" labels referring to?

most of those A number points are reference points. They would correspond to other trackplans with more details.

As for the F.X., I think it's "Fixed Crossing" or something to do with a Crossing.

Hello,

The "A" looks more like a reference to the division. (Different divisions seem to have different reference points. such as "I" "A" "O" etc.) Whats behind the "A" is in reference to track infrastructure. Culverts, pipes, small bridges, etc...

"F.X" = Farm Crossing.

Help's to have a Legend/Key...

Hope this helps. :)
More info and track charts can be found HERE.

Actually, the "A" labels are drainage culverts; A-71 is a 30 inch diameter corrugated iron pipe (C.I.P); A-148R is a 20foot by 9 foot (cross section) culvert. Note the number of culverts under the railroad; one major defect shared every route I've seen, is the lack of drainage, both along rail lines, and under them.
