TransDEM and mac trainz

Greetings,

TransDEM looks like an essential tool for a prototypical route I am pondering. I have Trainz for Mac, also I do have access to a PC (without Trainz on it).

I am hoping to work up the base in TransDEM on a PC and then copy it over to the Mac for working on in surveyor.

But will TransDEM work on PC - and export a trainz route - if there is no Trainz PC version installed? Or is it counting on an installation of Trainz being present on the PC to work properly?

cheers

G'day Howarded2,

TransDEM is completely "Trainz Independant" in it's 'operation'. It will happily export the appropriate Trainz route files to any location you tell it. You can then manually move the folders thus created to any other location you wish, Transferring them from a PC to a Mac via USB stick or CD/DVD should not be an issue...

Thanks mate, that's great news! I see you're an Australian transdem creator, is there a forum I can check somewhere so I don't end up duplicating someone else's efforts? cheers Howard

hi I"m trying to get dem info for port of brisbane...

made the outlay of the program and now cant find the dem data I need...

G'day Howarded2 & targanon,

I have been known to frequent the Victrainz Forum...

http://www.forum.victrainz.com.au/index.php

...on the odd occasion and in fact, have a separate sub-forum there, dedicated to Australian DEM requests (you will, most likely, need to register to gain access to the appropriate section). If you 'track me down there', I can, perhaps, be of more assistance...

...in the meantime, targanon, you can find 1 arcsec (30 meter) DEM data for Australia from the AsterGDEM website...

http://www.gdem.aster.ersdac.or.jp/index.jsp

...but again, you will need to register to download them (they are free, though) or you can go for the "old reliable" SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) 3 arcsec (90 meter) DEM data from NASA, via their website...

http://www2.jpl.nasa.gov/srtm

...there is always the TransDEM forum, run by "The Good Doctor" - Roland Ziegler (who wrote the program) - as well...

http://forum.transdem.de/index.php

...(which also requires registration) but if you're after specific assistance with an issue with that program and/or resources, that's the "place" to be (and I've been known to 'drop in' there from time to time, too)...

Thanks so much for all your help jerker, I had searched high and low for good resolution DEM data for Australia but all I found was 'government use only' sites.

cheers Howard
