TrainzObjectz help needed

I have moved my Auran file(including TRS2004 and Paintshed) from my main harddrive(C) to an external drive(H). When I start TrainzObjectz I get a message that TO cannot locate PaintShed. Can someone tell me how to get the Paintshed directory into TO?

Thanks

Earl

P.S. Do I need to reinstall TO so it can create a new directory to Paintshed. It had no trouble finding TRS2004.

I can't recall the answer for sure, but I've faced this problem several times in the past and I think the cure was to make sure you have the line;

world_cache_paintshed 1

in the file caching.txt which is within the TRS2004 "Settings" folder.

I notice also that I have the files world_cache_Paintshed.ja.chump in the TRS2004 "Cache" folder and Paintshed.ja in the "World" folder. Maybe that's important too.

Check those 3 things and see if you have the same.

As Deane says add the line world_cache_paintshed 1 to the end of caching txt in Settings Found in C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\Settings\caching.txt and that should solve the problem

I followed Deane's suggestion and added world_cache_paintshed 1 to the caching.txt file in TRS2004/Settings. I checked and the files in Cache and World are there. I still get the warning message when opening TO. The warning states "Cannot find Paint Shed files" and objects labeled PS may not appear. I have never used PS so don't know where to look for these file.

Use the menu section of TO and delete the dispatcher chump and see if that clears the problem after re starting trainz

Nothing I have tried has eliminated the warning message. After further investigation I think the warning message IS THE ANOMALY. PaintShed objects show up in Railyard so Trainz is finding the Paintshed files. So I have ticking the Do Not Show The Message box in TO and will ignore the warning.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

That's a shame it didn't work.

Something else came to mind from the past and that was the idea of "initializing" Paintshed by creating at least one Paintshed asset, however crappy, and saving that. Was that to make TO recognize Paintshed or for Trainz to recognize it? I cannot recall. Anyway, it's easy to try.

At least you haven't got the #123 Error, which has come back to plague me every time I load TO. I had it once before, never found what it was or how to fix it, but it went away of its own accord. And now by the same token, it has returned. Apart from the error message nothing else is affected...

If you just moved the program files, then its registry entries will be broken.

The only solution in that case is:
Backup any assets you've downloaded or made yourself and want to retain.
Uninstall TRS2004.
Delete any debris files and folders in C:\Program Files\Auran
Run a registry cleaner to delete debris registry entries for TRS2004.
Reinstall TRS2004.
Reapply SP4 if your TRS2004 isn't inherently patched to SP4.
Restore the assets that you backed up.

Moving program files is nearly always a total no-no with any program, not just Trainz.

Hi Deane,

The making of a "crappy" asset with Paint Shed was mainly to help TRS know where Paintshed was and then allow Paintshed content to be seen by TRS. I do not remember though if this helped TO.

An "123" error from TO means that there is an error, but TO can not find a fix for it, it is an error TO does not understand. To my knowledge the only way to fix this when it occurs is to slowly remove any content you have recently installed. By taking care with your removals/deletions, you may work out which item it actually is. You can then reinstall all the other content and the one you worked out has the error, by then looking at the Config File you may find the error and correct it.

Hope this helps.

Hi john I tried for over a month to get 04 to install and every time it would go blank after the launch screen would come on, so i gave up on it. I got 09 installed it found my PC isn't good enough for 09, tried upgrading my PC for 09 but the Mother broad won't support XP/SP3 after that removed 09 and for some reason 04 appeared and runs fine after all these months. ( i did the install back in June 08) Didn't TO come in sp2 of 04? I don't remember how to get to it in 04.

Thanks Danny5
(AND YOU WANT ME TO UUUUNNNSSSTTAALL IT):hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

Trainz Objectz can be downloaded free of charge from here. It doesn't come with Trainz.

It's not a matter of me wanting you to uninstall and reinstall TRS2004. If it's not working because you moved it then that's the only way to make it work. Uninstalling and reinstalling application programs on a PC is normally a trivial operation. Maybe your registry has got in a mess if you've moved programs manually after installing them. In that case, a registry cleaner program may help to sort things out.

But if TRS2004 is now working sufficiently for you and as the computer has a history of installation difficulties then the good old adage "if it works don't fix it" applies :)

Not a problem :)

As far as I can remember PaintShed was a separate download for TRS2004 but it was included with TRS2006.

I'm not sure what the situation is with PaintShed in TC and TRS2009.
