Trainz Ulitmate Collection

Greetings.

It's been YEARS since I've posted here. Years since I've had Trainz Ulitmate Collection installed on my computer and I seem to be having a few troubles.

First, I wanted to get clear on something, "Trains Ultimate Collection" = "UTC" = "Ulitmate Trainz"? Or no?

I seem to recall being able to download stuff, such as locomotives and rolling stock from the browser within the game, am I mistaken?

When I try to download things for my game, I see a link that says "Trainz://intall/<kuid-whatever>" these don't work at all, or in firefox result in a protocol error message. So, instead I use the FTP link. EVERYTHING I download since yesterday won't open when I double click it. I get an error about "username" missing in the CDP file. :'(

I also notice that http://files.auran.com is down, and has been for days as I've been trying to download the latest download helper. It appears the this "download helper" isn't included in my old Trains Ultimate Collection CD.

Any help? I feel like I'm being pushed into buying a later version, and I'm just not interested - surely there must be a "work around".

(in case anyone is about to ask, I'm not trying for any particular KUID, I'd be happy to get any loco downloaded but I've been looking for smaller steam)

Ok, one thing I am trying to get is 204652:100009 - which is my own damn repaint from way back when... it won't open.

Yes, UTC=Ultimate Trainz etc...

As of a few days ago, you won't be able to download anything from the DLS with a version earlier than Trainz Classics. There are many 3rd party sites for downloads, but you may find that a lot of the content is for newer versions, and so will probably not load in UTC. If you post a bit more about your interests, someone will be able to point you to some suitable 3rd party sites...

If you were here years ago, how do you have a kuid of 204652?

You are missing a lot by not updating to TS2010, compared with UTC it is like Win7 compared with Win98, and you have more that 100,000 items available to you. Don't by TS2009, that one is a dead end and misses out on much that is better in TS2010.

PS, As KUIDs back then were low numbers, I guess that you may have asked for that particular number which was possible about then.

Your asset is on the DLS It is a GP38, and has a build version of 1.5.

Easy to find with an up-to-date program.

@paulzmay - so I can't download my own creation? That's messed up - esp since I can still see it, and I download a file that LOOKS to be the right size, but I just can't open it... Guess they changed the container format or something.

@narrowgauge - dunno about my ID#, I didn't request it, and I first came on in 2005. Later versions certainly look nice, but since I'm still on WinXP, you can guess my position on "upgrades".... I can download my GP-38 paint, but I can't OPEN it....

If you have the file, it should open OK. I seem to remember getting the 'unable to find required username' etc when moving assets between versions, but it never stopped it installing.

That's how i figure it, but it doesn't open.

At this point I'm wondering if they "converted" it or something. My KUID number being so high makes me suspicious too - like maybe it got reassigned?

I'm trying to get an up to date version of download helper, but the link is still dead.

I am a UTC user as well... One website I did find was http://steammachine.com/prowler/ . It has a bunch of NG D&RG Steam locos and some shays, etc...
