Trainz track blur

Hi

I recently purchased a copy of Trainz12 but have an issue with the display when tracking a train from the external chase view. The picture looks fine but the stones on the side of the tracks seem to blur and then re focus. It seem to chase down the screen at the same speed as the movement. I hope this explains the effect, I would have looked for previous posts but it was difficult to know what to search for.

I just wanted to know if this is normal.

Trainz12 has been patched to the latest available.

My PC spec is.
Intel i5 2500K
16gb of 1600 ram
120gb ocz ssd agility 3 running on sata3 controller this has os and Trainz installed.
Nvidia GTX480 1.5gb
Windows 7 64bit

Thanks.

Hi ldunne,

Welcome to the forums.

Firstly, may I advise that you register your TS12, as you will have trouble accessing patches and the Download Station without it.

It also sounds like you need to check that the graphics settings are suitable for your system (these can be found under Options on the Launcher screen, as well as ingame under Main Menu > Options)

Hi,

I have now registered my copy of Trains 12.
I did have a quick experiment with the settings but this made no difference so I changed them back to the default.
Apart from this effect the picture is very good and smooth. I installed the software on another PC that also has an i5 2500k but just with the default Intel 3000 graphics. I knew this would not work well but it would show if another system had the same effect. Although slow it did show the same effect. If you go on YouTube and search for 'trainz 12 tutorial' there is a 2:01 min clip and starting at 1:45 you can see the effect running along the rail to the right of the moving train. It seems to change in chunks as the screen moves down. However the other style of rails running on the right of the screen show no effect. Is it something to do with the rail type used? It is much clearer on my screen but you can see the effect. As I said before I can play the game OK but if there is a fix for it then I would want to apply it. Does it work better with a faster graphics card, the system is using a 480gtx?

Thanks

I couldn't see the effect on the YouTube clip (a link would be good), but it sounds like it could be a rather coarse LOD (Level Of Detail) setup of the track. Newer tracks have different meshes with different LODs for different distances, typically 4-6; the further away, the lower the LOD. If the jumps between detail level are too big they become clearly visible.

Edit: Just watched it again. Yes, that's the LOD kicking in. The only fix is to replace that particular track with a different one. Try SAM or JR track.
