Trainz Prices Too High?

I feel that the question that should be ask of oneself is ... are you having fun!?

If you never download contents from the DLS, the product upon itself is worth the money, because it comes with many goodies! It has a little bit of omething for all --- even online playing with close friends or just chatting away! ... in other words, if the product takes you away from ready-day life, and just puts a smile on your face after you accomplish that first route or that first object in gmax/3dmas or even that first friendship ... I recall my first friendship and it was Craig, seeseeme, early 2002, then you know, price is not really that much of a factor!

Yes, you will always your share of wars of words, but that comes with the terroirty of posting on forums, etc; But at the end of the track, trainz give you an opporunity to express your creativity and imagination in countless of ways, and with a smile on your face!

Over the years this thing has popped up only occasionally and for the love of me it is beyond me. As has been pointed out in the thread other enjoyments are pricier than Trainz. And unlike an entertanment which lasts for that occasion Trainz can last as long as you want it to. Understandingly a youngster might find it a stretch but the vast majority of users are people who can afford it. It is tremendous value and hours of fun and even the non-techy can create things easier here than on some other competitors. It is a tremendous hobby and allows us to do whatever our imagination or real life situation influences us. From time to time there are special offers and for the average person it is fantastic value and likke many others it is not only an enjoyment but allows us to drive trains and have a break from the normal routine world. Being a Scot I vakue money (!) and this is outstanding value for my bawbees.

Here we go, someone starts a negative thread and every relpys to it and keeps the drama going, but when someone actually needs help or starts a decent positive thread nobody replys for days. Cool

It is less - no shipping for the download. I, for one, am glad they still offer physical media.
Indeed but most other companies that offer a physical type media and a digital download have the prices on the downloaded goods about 10-20 dollars lower. Shipping does not count as "price" of the item itself, that is a separate service your paying for.
DVD version should be XX.XX + Shipping which would equal XX.XX
While the download version should be only XX.XX which should be about 10-20 bucks cheaper(pending the age of the software in question, the actual cost of packaging of the DVD version, weather it be 5 bucks to package, or 20)

I too refer physical media rather than spend hours downloading a program so that I can use it immediately. There may be a profit in the shipping cost and that is why they may be the same price.

In some countries (the UK is one of these), taxes are charged on downloadable products just as much as products that are physical products. In the UK, that's the VAT (Value Added Tax).

In passing I don't think that jcalmx55 with respect of opinion is correct. The theme was that tranz was expensive and therfor many would find that as ot correct in relation to other interest and hobby involvements. I dare say that it can lead to wanderings off but it is a debatable item.

In Europe and here in Great Britain you are of course correct shaneturner12 about that tax. I don't know if in America their sales tax is included or an addition as years ago on my first of two visits over there I found an item to buy at a nice price then found a tax was added wheh I went to buy it? However even with the local VAT I still find Trainz an outstanding buy for a hobby that is intensively enjoyable and if you want you can stick to one issue for as long as you want! For me, I started with 04 then 06 and at present working on layouts in 09 so shows that I think it's goodly value.

Here in the states the sales taxes do not apply to online sales, EXCEPT in New Jersey and California(last I checked anyways) as each state sets up its own laws and percentage. Of course now that I said that I am sure the other states like the one I live in will now tack on a tax to online sales because they aren't making enough money, so they need more of mine.

I don't find that to be true, but your experience may vary.
