Trainz freezes

I have this weird problem. When I launch trainz, I get as far as the first loading screen, the one with the gear in the bottom right and a random help message. When I check the task manager, trainz is using 25% of my cpu and is not responding. It makes no difference where from or how I launch it.

What up?

Hi
If you have just booted up your computer, try running 'Manage Content' before starting Trs. (Don't start from within 'Content Manager', exit and start normally.)
Cheers

Trainz and CMP Freezing Tips - This problem is caused by a software or hardware issue on your PC.

Hello

1. Trainz and CMP need min of 2Gig of ram to run smoothly on your PC and make sure no other programs are running in the background.
2. What version of windows have you got on your PC, if vista make sure Trainz is installed as an administrator on your PC.
3. Have you ran Trainzdiag? to see if your PC passes all tests to run Trainz: C:\Program Files\Auran\TC\Bin\TrainzDiag
4. Have tried deleting the assets.tdx and assets.bku files? so CMP will re-build the Trainz assets database: C:\Program\Files\Auran\TC\assets.tdx and C:\Program Files\Auran\TC\Cache\assets.bku
5. Have you got MS Net installed?
6. To disable sounds in CMP: In CMP go to file then settings then miscellaneous tab then tick disable sounds in CMP.
7. Have you got the latest video card drivers installed for your Graphics Card?, recommended Graphics Cards are ATI or Nvidia with min of 256mb.
8. CMP or Trainz still not working must be a problem with your Trainz installation.
9. You still can't get CMP or Trainz working then list your PC Spec here.
10. Still no joy in getting CMP or Trainz working: hardware or other software issue on your PC.

Regards

Ahsan:)

Hello

I have 8 gigs. The only other programs running are Launcher.exe (thats the Trainz launcher, by the way) and explorer.exe, which I can't use the computer w/out)
2. What version of windows have you got on your PC, if vista make sure Trainz is installed as an administrator on your PC.
I have an XP/Vista dual boot, but I'm running it on XP
3. Have you ran Trainzdiag? to see if your PC passes all tests to run Trainz: C:\Program Files\Auran\TC\Bin\TrainzDiag
Yes, and there's not a snowball's chance in hell my computer isn't powerful enough.
4. Have tried deleting the assets.tdx and assets.bku files? so CMP will re-build the Trainz assets database: C:\Program\Files\Auran\TC\assets.tdx and C:\Program Files\Auran\TC\Cache\assets.bku
Yes. I've done that several times.
5. Have you got MS Net installed?
Yes.
6. To disable sounds in CMP: In CMP go to file then settings then miscellaneous tab then tick disable sounds in CMP.
Disabled thsat five minutes after I started using it, the sounds are so damn annoying.
7. Have you got the latest video card drivers installed for your Graphics Card?, recommended Graphics Cards are ATI or Nvidia with min of 256mb.
Yes, downloaded them a week ago. I have two 9800GX2s hooked up, but not quad-sli b/c nVidia won't allow that for XP.
8. CMP or Trainz still not working must be a problem with your Trainz installation.
CMP works absolutley fine.
9. You still can't get CMP or Trainz working then list your PC Spec here.
I'll check when i get home.

Back to square one.

I reinstalled my downloaded content, but since none of my maps would play, even after saving them in surveyor mode, I decided to restart the computer. Now, CMP and Trainz will no longer open in order to rebuild the assets.* files. I get a loading icon for aobut two seconds, then nothing.

I just about ready to chuck this sim in the pool.

Edit: ookay, found a work around, didn't take long.

Now however, I'm suffering from a new set of problems. whenever I load a map in surveyor mode, Everything works fine. I can see the tracks, buildings, trains, baseboards, terrain, everything. However, when I click on 'quick drive'or whatever it is, i get a blank beige screen with nothing more than the 'select view' panel and the waybill, help panel. The only way to get out of this is to open the task manager and force-close trainz. what is this is going on?!

New Edit:

The maps load properly. However, I do not start with any train selected, and the camera starts FAAAAR away and below the baseboards, and only by smashing the keyboard can I get back on to them.

What going on!??!?!:'(

Unfortunately, the problems you describe are more than likely caused by a faulty install of SP1. The solution is to uninstall and reinstall both trainz and SP1, following all the instruction in the thread in the FAQs, Tips, and Tricks section of the TRS2006 sub forum. This includes running the SP1 installation off of the hard drive with the TRS2006 CD in the drive and not having run trainz at all before installing SP1.

Can you check task manager, if launcher.exe is still running after Trainz has started then its rebuilding the asset.tdx in the background. Trainz.exe itself does NOT do this, launcher.exe does.

Trainz will sit on the initial loading screen (with the blue bar at the top) until launcher.exe exits. If you have a lot of custom content then this can take quite a time!!! Keep an eye on launcher.exe in task manager.

The trainz loading process is..

1 -Click Icon - Launcher.exe starts
2 -Launcher.exe begins rebuilding assets.tdx in the background (if necessary)
3 - You click start, Launcher either starts Trainz.exe then exits, or starts Trainz.exe and hides its main window, but continues processing in background.
4 - Trainz starts loading, if it detects launcher.exe is running it will wait on the loading screen until this exits.
5 - Launcher.exe finishes rebuilding assets.tdx and trainz completes loading.

And thats it, so my first tip would be to delete assets.tdx, then start launcher - this will rebuild assets.tdx.

Watch the Trainz folder, when the assets.tdx file reappears then launcher.exe has finished rebuilding. At this point click Start to run Trainz.

In addition - with the Driver launching and being focused on a random baseboard, make sure you don't have any extra drivers configured in your session, and that any drivers you have configured are assigned to trains, I've had this behaviour before due to those reasons.

In Driver mode you need to have an engine selected otherwise there is nothing for the camera to focus on.

Evan.
