Trainz file structure.

Hi guys, It has been many a year since I last used my Trainz Ultimate Collection. I had backed up all the files I had downloaded at the time I was active on the Auran Trainz site (KUID2 files). However I find I am unable to recall how the files are laid out on the hard disk within the directory structure and thus where to place those KUID2 files. Can anyone give me the details of such. By the way this version of Trainz is working very well in Linux. I use Linux Mint running Wine, if any one is interested.

I wouldn't bother, I suggest you buy a copy of TS2010 as UTC & TRS2004 are no longer supported, you will have no
access to the dls unless you buy a FCT, also any content you may create will not be accepted onto the dls & very very few
creators are making content for versions below 2010.

kuid2 and kuid go inthe same place - the download folder - but for a better answer ask the experts in the UTC area of the forums

why bother with only 2010 ya might aswell get 2012 well

Because 2012 doesn't have Compatibility Mode which if you're like me and have a ton of old legacy version content and have as little skill in fixing errors and bugs in config files as I have (which is almost nil), it's the only way to get such content to run. Sure, the trade off is Trainz runs a lot more sluggishly, but as the old saying goes: 'beggars can't be choosers.'

Thanks all

I can't go up to the latest version I am sorry to say as the new versions don't seem to want to work under Linux. I have tried my friends 2009 version, and that did not work. So I can I think I can safely presume that the newer versions will not work also. So for my usage as such as I would like to go to the newer versions but I don't think it is possible, as I don't own Windows only Linux computers and I have no real need or desire to use Windows. Having got this version working under Linux Mint I have all I need to complete my line from Paddington to Bristol, I think. So I will stick with this version. I do wish to know where the KUID files were once placed however, so I will ask on the other forums to see if someone can aid me. Thanks for the suggestions anyway guys, but without malice, I think you all missed the Linux point.

Hi,

Unless I am getting way to old, this is where all downloaded files went as folders inside Trainz before TRS2006 came along:

"DISC":\"TRAINZ"\World\dispatcher\downloads

"Disc" = where you have Trainz, I have it on station G for Games...
"Trainz" = in your Case UTC I think, I have TRS2004 there, hence I wrote "Trainz"

Rest is the folder structure as it is on my Windows machine, place all your kuid folders inside the downloads folder as above, and Trainz shall find them I would guess.

Hope it helps

Linda

well i'm on trs 2012 now & most of the old content works!!! Oh i'm not say all but the old content is slowly geting fixed & re-uploaded to work in trs 2012. i also was thinking about that but when a mate of mine got trs 2012 & i saw most of the old content working on it then desided well why not get it? besides the older versions are slowly geting killed off so not much ya can do after that. i'll never look back on the older version's now once i have everything i want working in trs 2012 i'll be removing 2004 & 2010 it's just awaste of space on my HDD to me

well i know someone that runs TRS 2010 on linux. but also at the same time thats your problem runing linux. & i'll say sorry but the game wasn't design for that so get windows & made a 2nd boot what ya can't run on linux run it on windows problem sorted

Thank you Shortline2, that is what was needed. I was looking at all the old KUIDs I have and was going through them, trying to sort them out, and where to place them so they are read correctly. Yes guys, I agree with your statements I should perhaps put Windoze on my computer but I have no wish to use Msoft software. I am happy to run the older version of Trainz at this time until someone can tell me how to get the latest version running under Linux. I am content to continue building the line I mentioned as I don't have a lot of time to sit playing on a computer anyway. By the way version 2009 works at times but it has a problem with drawing some of the items, which we did not resolve. I do thank you all for your comments however and wish you all well.
