Trainz 2019 or Trainz 2022?

Hello! This is my first post here!

I have Trainz: A New Era for a while which I got from the official website back in 2023. Right now, I have found some good discounts for Trainz 19 and Trainz 2022 on Steam.

I have checked both the new game versions, and my PC seems to meet the minimum system requirements of both the games. However, I do not know which one to choose. My budget is low and I cannot buy both of them.

Do I go for the newer Trainz 2022 with its features? Or do I go for Trainz 2019, which may run better on my PC?

As always individual experiences may vary.

My experience: TRS22 runs much better on my fairly average (specs below) system than TRS19 did. Likewise it also runs well on my two lower spec laptops. It goes without saying that TRS19 runs much better on almost anything than T:ANE did (again my opinion).

Comparisons: Both TRS19 and TRS22 come in two versions. The "standard" and the "PE" (Platinum Edition). Both PE versions offer more features than the standard. If you can afford the price difference then the PE version of both is the far better option.

I do not have Steam so I cannot comment on their current pricing but the Trainz Store at https://store.trainzportal.com/ gives a good comparison between TRS22 and TRS22PE with their current prices (also discounted). TRS22PE is about $US30 more than TRS22.

One of the big advantages of TRS22PE is that it comes with the newer and much more powerful Surveyor User Interface, Surveyor 2.0, as well as the standard Surveyor Classic interface that you would be familiar with from T:ANE. TRS22 (standard) has the Surveyor Classic interface only. Surveyor 2.0 can be a long and sometimes steep learning curve for those (like me) who have been using Surveyor Classic for over 20 years now, but the climb is well worth it.

To add to what Peter has said, Steam only offers TRS19 Standard. To get TRS19 Platinum you must buy it from the Trainz Store. Steam does offer both TRS22 Standard and TRS22 PE. Steam also offers TRS22 Model Railroader Edition which is TRS22 Standard but included two routes in the model railroad style and a selection of content for used in making virtual model railroads using TRS22. It is currently on sale at 80% off here on the USA Steam site. I'm not sure that is the same if you are not in the USA.

The best deal is the TRS22 Platinum Edition Bundle which is TRS22 and TRS22 PE plus 12 additional DLC items for less the cost of TRS22 PE itself.

TRS22 Platinum Edition Bundle

Thanks for your reply. I am aware of the Standard and Platinum Edition versions. I am not too interested in the Platinum Edition of either games because my budget is quite strict. Im okay with sticking to Surveyor Classic.

I also live in India, and the pricing of the games in the Trainz Store are too expensive when I convert them from USD to INR. The discounts in Steam for these games are very budget-friendly for me, but even then I can only choose one of the two games.

T:ANE works quite smoothly for me in low settings, and I hope it works for TRS2019 or maybe even TRS2022.

Here are my PC specs:
Windows 10 x64 bit
Intel i5-7400 processor
16GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro K1200 Graphics Card

One other thing to consider is that TRS19 is a mature product with most?? of its bugs ironed out. It has already passed its end of product support date (September 2024) so there will be no more updates, bug fixes, service packs or hot fixes released.

TRS22 is the new product with all the new bugs you would expect. Its end of product support date is September 2027 so there will be more updates, bug fixes, service packs and hot fixes released. Some users prefer to use the previous version (TRS19 in this case) instead of the latest release because it will (theoretically) have fewer bugs.

As of now, does TRS22 have many and/or huge bugs? If it is playable without much infuriating moments, I am happy to buy TRS22.
