trainz 2019 "engine startup failed"

My son is using Trainz 2019 and he keeps getting this error.

trainz 2019 "engine startup failed"

The launcher window will flash, but nothing will happen afterwards.

How would I attempt a reinstall?

Any advice as to where I can start troubleshooting?

Reinstall would be to redownload from MyTrainz.
