Trainz 2010 & Windows 7

Has anyone been able to get Trainz 2010 to work with Windows 7?
When I select the Content option in the start window I get a message that it won't work because of missing file d3dx9_42.dll. An email exchange with Zek at Auran told me to download a file from Microsoft from DirectX 9, never mind that Windows 7 includes DirectX 11, I down load this file and the dialogue box asks where to save it to. I haven't a clue where is should go. When I load a route I get some really cool scenery with track, but not a hint of any rolling stock or motive power and no sound. I downloaded some patches for Auran at Zek's suggestion and they apparently had no effect on the problem. I did get a tutorial to work a couple of times for a few minutes and then the graphics gets trashed and the system freezes.:'(

I would post this in conent creation, or the forum for your trainz version. They would know. Nothing against it, but this is a screenshot forum.

Yes, Win7 has DirectX 11 but TS2010 needs DirectX 9, c I think.

If you are getting that message you need to download the full DirectX 9c from Microsoft, DX 10 and 11 are not fully DX9 compatible, seems it works on some cards but not others. DX9c will work alongside 10 and 11.

Tranz 2010 failure to load

I am the one who had problems with the DirectX version and Trainz 2010. thanks to clam1952 and others I think i have the solution. Unfortunately, I now have another problem. At some point Zek Murphy at Auran suggested that reloading the program might solve the problem. So I did that. I first uninstalled Trainz 2010 using the Windows 7 utility then I tried to reload the program. I got as far as the window that requests your name, organization, and serial number. When I enter them I cannot proceed because the "Next" button is ghosted and non-functional. The only options that work is "Back" and "quit":'(

Has anyone a solution for this problem?

May be this?
Need to install and run as Administrator on Win7, especially if Home Premium and installing in Program Files (x86) or Program Files if 32bit. Win7 restricts write access in Program Files on user and admin accounts, so need to specifically tell it to run as administrator.

Also in your properties, make sure to set it to run as if its running on Windows XP SP3.

You don't need to do this, as long as it is set to 'Run as Administrator' you should not have a problem.
