I just bought 2010 eng. and am trying to replace the factor horns on the loco's with downloaded horns, I've tried using explorer and content manager to replace the factory kuid with the downloaded kuid at both top and bottem of page. When I do that I get the ! faulty and loco disappears from yard screan. What am I doing wrong and how can I change the horns out?

Make sure you can see bith the replaement hornsound and the loco in TS2010 CM3 and there are no errors or warnings on either

Also post the parts of the config that you changed, it may give us a better clue to the prob

Oh, and a very warm welcome to the forums, and Trainz in paticular. A good choice you made there with TS2010

This is the standard ATSF that comes with the game towards the bottem, and I'm trying to replace the kuid horn with this: Nathan k3h cp/cn horn kuid <kuid:104722:54567>
kind "hornsound"

kuid 100871
kind "traincar"
trainz-build 2.9
username "ATSF SD40-2"
engine 1
mass 190508
max-tractive-effort 560475
interior <kuid:523:666>
enginespec <kuid:-1:42004221>
enginesound <kuid:-1:42003000>
hornsound <kuid:-1:42003101>
smoke_shade 0.3
smoke_random 2.5
smoke_slowlife 6
smoke_fastlife 0.8
smoke_height 1.7
smoke_fastspeed 1.6
fonts 2
fonts-path "SD40-2"

Replace any <kuid:-1:42003101> in the loco config with <kuid:104722:54567>

Check you have d/l <kuid:104722:54567> and installed and committed OK with no errors or warnings

Then commit the loco

If there are any warnings o errors then post them here

The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'art/sd40_2_art_icon.texture'.

The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'coupler.texture'.

The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'digit_1a.texture'.

The *.texture.txt file is missing for texture resource 'env_glass.texture'.

and the list goes on with error texture messages about 15 of them. I now have a faulty symbol and the loco has disappeared from yard screan.

Builtin assets were built to the older standards and are installed as is, hence, they have not been checked by the CM3.2 error checker. Thus, when you open one for edit in explorer to change something you have to commit the kuid to put it back into the database and the CM3.2 error checker will flag some (a lot of) errors.
If you want some SD40-2s that are easier to modify, try some of those on http://trainz.banal.net/catalog/pages/UnitedStates-Diesel-AtchisonTopeka&SantaFe.html and change their interiors to the photorealistic kuid:523:666.
