Trainz 2009 World Builder - Don't Buy It

oh, i did buy it already!! bad mikemike!

but, mine's in english, and the proggy works better than '06 in so many ways that i'm happy with it. and, really, what do you want? you know that HO railroading looks like barbie doll, but we still operate them with so much fun. and, you know that a chess game has no scenery, but you still make your moves.

what moves are you making on us here?

Disapointed?
Perhaps more like a bit frustrated but since I pretty much expected that, I was not disapointed. Even though I cannot use "stuff" that did not come with TS2009, I still enjoy it a whole bunch.
Fortunately the layouts I made for TRS2004 and TRS2006 use only default "stuff" and they transfered to TS2009 almost flawlessly. However I do look forward to SP2 and SP3 and...

I don't recommend TS2009. I've had mine for about 6 months and all i've had is trouble. First off, there was constant crashing of the game. Next, we went into all the trouble to upgrade the computer which nearly cost me 1489 bucks. Then i had a problem with the repairing database window which completly stuffed up the game for about a week. and now, The game has completly crapped itself so bad, i can't play it at all! So whatever you don't buy TS2009. If you have, dispose of it immediatly!

Cheers

But, on the other hand, 2009 works perfectly for me - no crashes, very stable, CM2 functions very well, good frame rates, ... . Didn't even have to upgrade the PC.

An excellent purchase. Highly recommended - Auran's best release yet.

Hi Rastis
If you would like to try and get TS2009 working properly, please send a ticket to the helpdesk and we can try working through some things with you. It may be something such as video drivers causing your problems.

I am lucky enough to be able to claim that I have had very little in the way of trouble with TS09. Downloads have been quick (less than 2 hours for initial digital download, far less for SP2) and the program has been virtually bug free apart from the odd isolated crash which certainly wouldn't make me recommend binning it.

I know plenty of people in exactly the same boat Phil, but there is definitely something 'weird' about 09. I love Trainz and have busted myself to get 09 to run on a fairly respectable machine including a vid card and RAM upgrade, but darned if I can live with the constant crashing-while-saving from Surveyor and the endless database rebuilds. I am not knocking your experience Phil, nor Auran's efforts to get it right, but it seems that for some folks TRS09 is a dream run, while for others it is an out-and-out nightmare. I'd try an uninstall-reinstall on the off chance of a buggy install or patch, but the darned thing won't even let me uninstall and I am wary of the delete-and-registry-clean route.

So it's back to route building in 04 and running in 06 for me, at least till SP3 which will hopefully realize the potential of 09, cause when it does do the right thing it looks and runs freekin' amazing....

Andy :)

Hi Andy --

When I was doing something that I probably should not have, I too lost the uninstall of TS2009. I overcame this by installing TS2009 on another PC then copying the unins000.exe file from the new installation back into the old.

If you follow this method, though, make sure TRS2009 is installed on both machines in exactly the same location.

Actually, I'll have to confess that I do most of my route construction in TRS2004, mainly because I feel more comfortable with TRS2004 and I know the resulting route will be usable by a wider audience.

But for running sessions TS2009 is infinitely better.

I've also found CM2 a great utility. The search filters are excellent, it will download all the required dependencies from the Download Station (almost without fail), importing of material is easy, deleting assets works perfectly, and it allows selective back-up of items into one cdp file.

Spot on, Phil. After bashing both 06 and 09 on a few occasions I decided to give both a serious try and now use both and am very pleased. As Zec stated above, the problems can most likely be worked out.

It seems like there is always someone that's unhappy with trainz. 2009 runs good for me,but you need to DL the patches for it. It's to bad that 09 is so much like 06 but the SD40-2 is cool. I hope 2010 is much better than 09 and has much newer content and the sound is fixed. I think 04 is the best of trainz which is what I run more times than not. Happy railroading.

Most of my problems were minor and fixable or ignorable until recently.
Only lately did I discover a change to Trainz displaying problem windows. The good old Thread Exception errors no lonnger display in windows, instead a little red button appears in the bottom right corner and if you're not ready for it, you can miss it. Had a couple of times where something caused the button but when I noticed it was several items later and I have to go hunting to find the cause. These have all been Builtins so far.
Only major crashes involved 2 locomotives of the same type downloaded, when I went to look at them in Railyard, screen froze up, got the Vista Ring of Fire cursor and had to Ctrl-Alt-Delete once just to leave.
The major issue I don't like is when a big problem like this happens, you get a window asking what you were doing, you enter information and an email gets made. The email has attachments, I know what my Registry is so I don't need that, the Error file may as well be in a foreign language and the third file cannot be opened by anything. So the information I could possibly use to fix whatever is going on I don't have anymore. JetLog has nothing.

Isn't there a base version of TRS09 or is it sold only under WBE now? I've been looking into adding it to my list but don't feel like shelling out the cash until I've seen a demo to determine wether or not my system can handle it.

I don't know why everyone complains about Trainz.
There is a perfectly good Trainz that runs almost bug free, it is called 2004.
Mike

I wouldn't give TRS2004 toilet space anymore.

Great when it was released, but not comparable in anyway, shape or form to TS2009.

Gimme a break, what else you going to run apart from TS2010...........RailFail :hehe:

IKB.

TS2009 always has WBE or World Builder Edition as part of its official name. There isn't any other TS2009, but of course many people abbreviate the name and omit the WBE.

TS2010 always has EE or Engineers Edition as part of its official name. Likewise there's no other TS2010 and the EE is often omitted.

The WBE and EE suffixes are of course totally meaningless and very confusing. That's marketing for you.

TS2009 uses less resources for the same frames per sec on the same content than any version of Trainz.

Cheerio John

TS2009 WBE

Hi Guys

I have tried everything! I just can't get it to work. I tried my mum's laptop but the game stuffed up the hardrive and now her laptop is broken! I have resorted back to TRS 2004 which I have never had a single crash on. I will try once more to get TS09 to work again.

Cheers :(

Try running the program on a more up-to-date desktop machine with a seperate graphics controller based on an NVIDIA or ATI chipset (NVIDIA perferably). Ensure the machine has plenty of disk space and lots of RAM as well as a fast processor. These are the precursors of a TS2009 capable machine.

The laptop probably didn't have the specs to run the program. The graphics requirements are very specific, and laptop graphics are usually very under powered and not 3d-capable. There are some laptops that have the capapbilities, but they are very expensive.

Hi!
TRS2009WBE works fine for me.Have some problems with the Surveyor, but I can live with that.
Else I think Auran in the future should offer a upgrade rather then release a new version of the game every second year!
Just waiting for this to pop up soon!

The only thing that I can complain about, about Trainz2009 WBE is that there is no search "things" to find content of a certain type or from a certain country.
