Trainz 2009 Test with the evga GTX 295 Co-op, Final Analysis.

I have finally completed the Trainz 2009 visual and performance tests with the new GTX295 Video co-op card. Here are the results with a fresh clean Xp Pro sp2 and default install of Trs2009 & no added content from the download station, just the Trs2009 default dvd install with no Sp1 for the first tests.

Kind of slow content draw in, Trees looked good and no apparent masking of the close by telephone poles. As I proceded down the track everything seemed to be very smooth until I turned up the draw distance about half way then the scenery went back to the old way of herky jerky movement. Frame rates dropped like a hot potato in the hand, Bummer. As I went ahead and tried the cab view mode it went back to very smooth again, but the set draw distance was gone. went back out of the cab view and the draw distance was back and a big frame rate hit was obvious. Then all of a sudden the trees went to bad masking the close by telephone poles. Trees and smoke from factories that were in the distance would completly cover up the Close by telephone poles that again looked very badly and ruined any kind of realizism.

I installed the Sp1 and nothing changed for the visual effects and frame rate hit from any kind of draw distance that was increased. Draw in of content was much faster than without Sp1. There is no powerful video card in the world that will fix this because it is a Trs2009 programing problem.
I even enabled the GTX295's SLI and no increase in performance or smoothness.
I am dissapointed.:( I hope that the Trainz team will fix these problems with service Pack2, Mainly the Trees and smoke and steam that washes through to frontal objects.
System is a Phenom 4x 955 quad core clocked at 3.4ghz, with 3gbs usable memory, 1100 watt psu, 4 raptor hdds in raid 0, GTX295 Co-op video card.

Okay, thanks for the input. Were you running 2009 in Native mode? If so, were you using trees and objects made for Native mode? Were you running in compatibility mode? If so, did you compare the frame rates between the two?

Awful Graphic Problems

Hi Guys, I too have the same experience of awful graphics as described above. In particular the trees mask everything and often bushes flash between two different textures . If I run in compatability mode things can be better. I am running xfired ATI 4850's so it's a program issue not the cards and yes I have tried it with xfire disabled. I tried a reinstallation last night but no difference was noted and now it keeps trying to DL a patch when I start it but the patch always fails to unpack. Hope these problems get sorted.

Trainz 2009 Test with the evga GTX 295 Co-op, Final Analysis. Another update.

I did install a patch called 38599, and to my surprise, I found that the Telephone Pole transparencies were fixed. Now the Content seems to work in the compatibility mode much better than without the patch. I am very satisfied that this patched fixed this problem. In order to install this latest patch you need to have a clean install of Trs2009 and do not do the Sp1 update. Use this patch 38599 instead and that will bring Trs2009 to the latest 38599.

Just wanted to let the trainz team know that their patch did fix that problem. Thanks.:)

Yeah, thanks, any chance of you answering my questions above?

I've run some tests on my rig between compatibility & native on build 38599 The frame rates were 52 in compatibility & 60 in native. At the moment it looks better in compatibility mode but shadows are horrible in both.

The loco shadows vary from about 10mm to about 75mm depending on the terrain. They don't show up on rail then appear on the ground near the rail disappear on a slight rise the reappear in a gully a little further away from the track.

Sorry for not answering your question.

 I got pulled away from my testing as I had a lot of work come up. I see that the question got answered after all. I got the same frame rates as he did on the average. Not enough of a difference to worry about, so I just left the compatibility mode on. All in all evga295 video card is working very well with all details maxed out. I really enjoy the very smooth frame rates in the cab mode. Once again my apologies for not answering in a timely mode.:mop:
