Trainz 2009 in Windows 7

I have a laptop running Windows 7 and I'm trying to get Trainz2009WE to run on this system.

After the install, I can't get the Content Manager to run. I can open up a play session and it runs fine as does the surveyor.

I had Trainz 2012 installed on the same system and all its parts ran fine albeit slooooow.

Uninstalled it and reinstalled to no avail. The initial diagnostics said everything was ok, but the video driver might need update. It can't be undated, but as mentioned, 2012 would run. Nvidia had a Vista driver, but never issued one for Windows 7.

Would appreciate any help.

Sometimes (I will emphasise that) a Vista driver may work with Windows 7, but I cannot guarantee that - another user may be able to.

If Content Manager is throwing up an error when launching, there is a good chance that it is due to the video driver.

Also, check that your DirectX is up-to-date - the base Windows 7 version is quite old.

Hi, Shane

If TS2012 would run, including its CM, why wouldn't TS2009 CM run?

When I click on the desktop icon, 2009 shows the initial start menu. Choose start game, everything's fine. Choose "content" the menu disappears and nothing happens.

What graphics chip?
Suggest using Nvidias driver search and let if pick the correct driver. Sounds like you are getting out of date information as there was a shortage of Drivers when Win7 was released and you had to use Vista ones, this is no longer the case as the same drivers work with both OS's.

Content manager not starting would indicate you do not have Nvidias drivers with OpenGL which is required for Content Manager and are using Microsoft ones.

Trying to get one of the 3 versions (2009, 2010 or 2012) I tried to update the video driver and may have damaged OpenGL.

The game loads the terrain and nothing else. All assets have a red exclamation point noting asset failed to initiate.

Is there a was install/repair OpenGL?

Here's the Trainz report

The only way to fix OpenGL is to remove and reinstall the graphics drivers.

Your graphics chip is an ATI so it's not really surprising that Nvidia don't have a driver for it!

I think you need to be downloading the Legacy Mobility Radeon driver from here, right hand side of page. http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

The earlier mention of Nvidia was mis information on my part before checking. I didn't install any Nvidia drivers.

I will look at the link you suggested.

Will a driver installation repair a damaged OpenGL environment?

More than likely - it is important to choose the correct version for your graphics card and operating system.

There is an auto-select option at the top-right of the page that appears (labelled 'Download Now')

Based on your video card I am surprised that your able to run trainz 12 ok without a lot of shutter.

There was plenty of stutter. That's why I wanted to revert to 2009. The game ran fine, but the CM wouldn't load.

All of the Trainz 12 components ran, but not well.

Now that I've tried to update the video driver, I may have corrupted the OpenGL environment.

Yes your right better off with trainz 2009

Will 2009 run in Windows 7? I had it installed before I tried the video driver upgrade. The game portion ran fine, but the CM wouldn't load. So the exercise became useless at that point. When 2012 was installed on that system, all its parts ran....albeit poorly.

The only upgrade for the laptop system is adding another gig or 2 of RAM.

It supposed to run fine and the cm manager fine to I have windows 7 and all has been fine. Maybe run as admin and see if that helps any.

I run TS2009 on Windows 7, without much issues.

As long as you have the latest graphics drivers and DirectX files, you should be fine.

Also make sure you are running Trainz as adminstrator.

Shane

That error can be due to a failed patch, or possibly a corrupt file.

What build number is your version of TS2009? (should be in bottom-right hand corner of Launcher screen)

Shane.

My desktop system, which is the only system, I can get all three editions of Trainz (2009, 2010 and 2012) to work has the 2009 build at 37625.

Right now, I'm trying to get all these editions to run. I've installed them from the original downloaded setup files. The only one that's been updated is 2010, and that runs fine on the desktop.

Another part of the problem is I purchased 2009 on an account I no longer use. That's why 2009 doesn't show up in my forum banner line. I thought I had saved the proper logon data, but apparently not. Even if I am using the right info, it may have gotten scrambled in the N3V changeover.

sigh.....

You will need to contact Helpdesk re: the serial number for TS2009, as the account you are using for TS2009 must be the one which has the serial number registered.

I would also advise installing the patches for TS2009 as well, as the base version has issues with certain graphics cards.

The list of patches you will need for your version of TS2009 is:

http://download.ts2009.com/patch/37625_to_40040.exe - this will bring you up to SP2.

http://download.ts2009.com/Beta/40040_to_41844.exe - this will bring you up to SP3 (You must have DirectX 9.0C August 2009 or later to install this)

There is also a SP4, which will make some major alterations to your TS2009, and may make some content faulty.

This is available at http://download.ts2009.com/patch/41844_to_44653.exe.

For your other versions, see http://www.auran.com/servicepacks.

Shane

I did contact them and the reply asked for "security" question answers.

First I don't remember having been asked to set those at registration time. At that time, I remember it was emphatic that I save the original download files and serial number key, which I did.

I gave them this info, waiting for a reply.

Hank

If you have the serial number to hand this may help them find the correct account although it's easiest if you know the relevant account name and password.
