Trainz 2006 and Vista Problem

I am a deeply frustrated Trainz user. This summer I purchased a new HP desktop PC with lots of memory and Windows Vista Home Premium Installed. This was an upgrade from my old XP system which has been running Trainz quite happily for a couple of years, but was low on memory.
Having read a forum thread about running Trainz as an 'Application Manager, I thought all my problems were over and had been successfully loading and saving routes and sessions. However, I've now hit a brick wall. On two separate occasions, on exiting Trainz, my Windows system slowed down to 10% of normal speed, effectively making the computer unusable. Everthing was affected, start up, shut down and internet working. My only action todate has been to do a system recovery to a period which predates the latest Vista Service Pack. The whole operation, on one occasion, took nearly 6 hours to put right. I have now stopped using Trainz 2006 (build 2761 v2.5) and if no-one has any advice, I only hope that the 2009 version is going to be the answer.:(

Hello

You can also make sure no other programs are running in the background.
no point doing a system restore if your PC starts to slow down only do a system restore if your PC Crashes.

How much memory does your PC Have?

By pressing Ctrl, Alt and Del keys at the same on your PC will bring up the Taskbar Manager then click the processes tab their it will tell you which applications or programs on your PC are using so much memory resources which can sometimes make your PC unstable and cause occasional lockups depending on your PC specifiection.

Regards

Ahsan:)

If you have "lots of memory", do you have Vista x64? I hear there are plenty of problems with that and gaming.

And have you tried it WITHOUT Vista SP1? I also have read about some problems with that.

Last but not least--in all respects, it probably should be first...

Next time it has this problem:

Ctrl+Alt+Del the computer, go to Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, and if Trainz.exe is still running, end the process.

If there's any more information you can acquire, let us know!

Welcome aboard...

 Nah, stay with Vista Prem...xp is so 5 years ago...

First, you need a top shelf Internet Security like Norton 360 or Kaspersky or one of their clones.

Then, disable Windows Firewall.

Go to User Accounts & disable User Accounts Control(UAC) by unchecking the box. UAC is there to add extra protection & checks system wide for vulnerability, including account permissions on all folders. If you have a decent anti-virus software, you don't need the redundancy of UAC-delete it.

Do a fresh install of TRS2006 to the HP Pavilion C:/ Folder...It should read C:/TRS2006...double check to make sure it reads like this exactly C:/TRS2006, when you get the prompt to "Install to Folder" on the Auran Install Window.

Install TRS2006 exactly as instructed on Lance Jago's SP-1 Installation Instructions.

Vista Problem and Trainz 2006

Thanks guys. Some useful suggestions there. I'm still a bit wary of some of the possible actions, I think my confidence has been shot. For instance, if closing down trainz using the Task Manager is an option, why did I still have the problem of a slow PC when I rebooted?
As regards memory, I have 3GB and have recently installed Norton 360.
I've seen the Auran Website and promo for Trainz 2009. It does not mention Vista compatability. Does anyone have an update or is the Beta Test designed to sort out the sort of problems I encount:) ered?

Ok i just installed Vista on My New PC and then installed my Trainz 2006. I had the same problem, nothing was saved in surveyor and content i downloaded disappeared, however i fixed this by going to the Auran Folder and finding the Executable for both the Trainz Start Menu and the CMP i went into properties on both and made both run in Administrator Mode.

Only problem now is Trainz constantly seems to stop responding after 10-30 mins of starting the program! I have also noticed that download station via cmp will not list!
