Hi i have Downloaded trainz 2004 on my laptop and added additional items to it but? when i add certain trains or carridges
i cant get them to show up on the track or show up in the train lists.
how and were do i get the missing assets from for 2004
anyone help ?:'(

Where did you get the download? Perhaps you have a boxed version which you loaded onto your laptop. Although boxed versions can occasionally still be found, I wasn't aware that TRS2004 was available as a download.

The final UK version of ’04 was Build 2370. You can see the build number at the bottom right of the menu screen where you open Surveyor, Driver etc. If the number is less than 2370 you may not have all of the Service Packs included which might stop some items from working properly.

Check out this link. I don’t know if it still works, but if you have a lower build number which matches any of the clickable numbers at the lower part of the page then it might be worth selecting it to get Service Pack 4. That was the final one and will update TRS2004 and make it as good as it gets.

One other point; if your TRS2004 is genuine legal copy, than you should have a serial number which can be registered and it will then appear in your Forum time-line with your four other versions. However, if it’s a dodgy download it may not be fully up to date and I’d also be very wary about using it on any computer.

it is a genuine copy of trainz 2004 by ,sold out. software the build no is 2370

That's exactly the same one I have. All of the Service Packs are included in the discs.

One thought is that your missing rolling stock may have come from the DLS. Now, because you have later versions registered it is possible that the DLS has allowed you to download an asset intended for a newer edition of Trainz.

It's possible to tweak the config.txt files for some assets; I've had some success in getting some TS2009 carriages into TRS2004 (with help), but I have a lot of failures as well.

Which trains and carriages are you having problems with? Can you give an example of each, quoting the name, kuid's and where you got them from.

If he "downloaded it", He hasn't got 'discs', I didn't even know you could 'download' 2004, that's why, when my 2004 discs
got too scratched to re-install, I bought a hard copy of 2010.

If the op downloaded 2004, I'd like to know where from & why bother when he has 2009 - 2010 & 2012 ?

It could be that he wants a "simpler" version for his laptop.

People often confuse the jargon (I do it all the time!), so he could have meant loaded it onto his laptop, rather than downloaded.

To know that it is in a SoldOut software box makes it sounds genuine, in which case there will be a serial number which I believe is still eligible for registration at N3V, even though it's old.

It could be a second hand copy though, in which case it may already be registered in someone else's name, and registered ownership is not transferable.

If it's a new and unregistered copy it's probably a good idea to get it signed in at N3V. Shane has done a "how to do it" tute. Link here.

TRS2004 is a very antiquated version, as is TRS2006

In the config files of an asset, and all of it's dozens of dependencies, there is a trainz-build line ... if it is beyond your present trainz-build of 2.0 or 2.4, it won't work in TRS2004, unless you backdate it.

ie: a 2.6, 2.7, 2.9, 3.0, 3.4 trainz-build asset, will not work in TRS2004, which is trainz-build 2.0 or 2.4

Backdating it is a chore ... and I may be able to help you on free Skype IM

Well I have the Sold Out version of TRS2004 v2.4 build 2370 and the version appears to have missing kuids like this one:
============ BUILT-IN OBJECTS ===================
30501:22006 Portal Basic (SP4) Industry TRS2004 BUILT-IN

I found that quote here and at the TPR forums and if that is suppose to be built-in but yet for me it isn't as it is missing that got me thinking are some of the other missing kuids for stuff I have downloaded could be built-in to SP4 of TRS2004 but for some weird reason not in\missing this version of TRS2004? I installed it using the 2 cds provided. Is there a list of content(kuids) that comes built-in to SP4 for TRS2004 so we can check to see if the copy of TRS2004 is missing stuff or what is missing or not?

Thanks.

Hello sonofham

Portal Basic <kuid:30501:22006> is built-in on my TRS2004 build 2370.

Are you looking for it in the right place?

It's not with tracks. Look for it in the Objects tab (F3) in Surveyor.

Edit: You can see your Trainz assets have if you load ContentManager.exe which is in your TRS2004 folder.

I downloaded this route a while ago West Side Lumber Company Sampler Route and I was able to load the route in the surveyor although it was missing some assets. I checked Content Manager afterwards and it gave me these missing kuids:
Code:
0 !NOTFOUND!<kuid:30501:22006>
1 !NOTFOUND!<kuid:96914:17001>(Done)
2 !NOTFOUND!<kuid2:33404:501755:2>

The middle one I was able to find and I found out the bottom one was listed as the Canyon_Live_Oak 10m(KUID2:33404:501755:2) scenery by David Drake on the DLS listed here....Another route:AI Test Area also uses the <kuid:30501:22006> which appears to be missing in my version of TRS2004.That route supposed to use only built-in assets according to this thread but I listed the missing kuids there according to CM.

I can’t see your missing portal asset listed in my Content Manager or in the rather more versatile TrainzObjectz, but I have it available in game. I see that the kuid belongs to WindWalkr (Auran/N3V’s code guru), so it could be hard coded into Trainz.

As we have identical versions of TRS2004 (build 2370) loaded from a Sold Out Software twin disc box, it seems odd that you are getting reports which I can't seem to replicate.

What Content Manager version are you using? Mine is v1.0 build 78, and looks like this at the top of the page:

Secondly, did you try looking for the portal asset 30501:22006, as previously suggested, in the Objects (F3) flyout in game? If you can’t find it there, it is on the DLS where it’s called Portal Basic, so you could try downloading it.

@mezzoprezzo

When I ran TrainzObject for the second time I found it and then again in surveyor when I searched for it.I checked those two routes in TO and the portal is there so when I loaded content manager and it still says the portal is missing like here:
Content_Manager_kuid_zps6fac9fb6.jpg

Also everytime when I load TO I get these error messages but I click on the no to all button and continue to load the app.
TO_Error_zpsd1bab4ba.jpg

Unfortunately I can't afford a FCT atm so I have to use as many third party sites and hope the content downs't require stuff from the DLS... :(

Hmm. Portals are supposed to make trains disappear, not disappear themselves! I’m a bit stumped at the moment.

First off, with regard to Portal basic <kuid:30501:22006> have you definitely, definitely, gone into Surveyor to do a full search?

1. You must be in the Objects Menu flyout with the top left Add object button selected.

2. Type Portal Basic in the search box.

3. Select All from the drop down list in both the Region and Object Types boxes.

If it appears, select it and see if it drops onto the baseboard as in my image. if you can do that, then there may be a problem with the downloaded route.

If it doesn't show up, then a more likely explanation is that your TRS2004 install may be faulty.

I don’t think you will find the asset listed in the full general Content Manager or TO lists. I've looked again and can’t find it in mine, even though I’ve clearly got it. It's a built in object which won't normally be seen until it becomes an error linked to something else

In your screenshot it shows because CM sees it as a missing dependency for your downloaded Slugsmasher route.

With regard to the TrainzObjectz error messages, these warnings are useful. I always say Yes to All because it will correct simple errors which can cause assets to fail. I've used it for several years and have found no reason to mistrust it. It has always worked fine for me and saves the tedium of manual corrections. The one in your screenshot has a 0 (zero) before the last 2 which needs to be edited out. TO will do that automatically if you say Yes.

Allowing TrainzObjectz to correct the errors may not sort out the missing portal problem, although it’s probably worth a try. However, it could well enable some other faulty assets to function properly, so it's worth doing anyway.

If all of the above fails, it might require a re-install of Trainz, but try the above first. If you do consider re-installing the game you may want to take further advice, particularly on how to save any work you have already done so that you don’t lose it. Unfortunately my knowledge of how to do it is not very sound (I’d also need advice!). I'm sure someone with the right knowledge will be able to help though.

Slugsmasher's route isn't the only one that CM has the portal as a missing dependency.I will select yes the next time I run TO to fix those errors.

Thanks. :)

[edit]BTW I did find both portals in surveyor.

All good new so far then!

It would be good to know if the error fix in TO solves your missing (portal) dependency problem.

With the warning window you should opt for "Yes to all" as this will solve some problems.

Regards Dave.

I sent Slugsmasher a pm here even though I had sent an email to him so I can get that missing kuid for his sampler route as it suppose to have all deps included in a zip file yet there is one kuid missing from it.I was having fun in my test route map I made with Std - Track Low (368.16 KB) and I was driving this sw1000 conrail loco in cab mode as I kinda like using the mouse cursor to pull the levers in the cab to control it but I overshot the turntable and derailed the loco...I reloaded the route but this time I was very careful and managed to get the loco on the turntable, turned the turntable and then drove the diesel around the map and got it back to the roundhouse without de-railing it! :D That was fun and got me thinking about how it would be cool while driving in cab mode with the Occulus Rift would be! :D :D

Like I have mentioned before the test route I made is meant for testing out all custom locos and rolling stock but as it turns out a number of content doesn't load because because of a missing kuid.... :( As much I have been able to find some of the missing kuids at third party sites this whole thing gets me even more depressed as I have been sick for just over 6 weeks and just can't seem to get better. :( I wish people would include kuids that are used in their routes\locos and rolling stock as long as the kuids are not payware.I had downloaded the Clinchfield TRS2 route and unfortunately I had 339 missing\uknown objects but so far I have been able to find 8 and now have 331 missing\unknown items.

I do plan to go back to Terry Franks (TaFWeb) website as there are a number of kuids used from there which I have checked out but yet to download for the route and use Google like I have been doing to search for all of the missing kuids that I can get thats not only on the DLS.
