Hi from new member. I've just bought a disk of Trainz2004 it looks interesting and I'm ready to install it, but will it let me download other routes/locos? I'm Auran registered but can't seem to find a specific answer to my prob. Any pointers much appreciated.

Just go to the DLS here http://www.auran.com/TRS2004/DLS.php and select anything TRS2004 or below and it should work. Note there is a limit on the amount you can download without a First Class ticket but currently it is reset daily. Just be aware that if you attempt a layout unless you have all the dependencies first it will refuse to download if the total with dependencies is more than 100 mb. There is content available on other sites.

Most content created until recently has been for TRS2004 its only recently that we've got better steam loco features and other goodies.

TS2010 with the S&C add on would be more civilised and probably bake better use of your computer but many people are quite happy with TRS2004.

Welcome to Trainz.

I concur with John above, before the arrival of TS09/10 TRS04 SP4 was the best ever Trainz version released (insert howls and protests from TRS06 and later versions users :p). It was the most stable version and where any sound usually played, not like the sad state of affairs had been with later versions of Trainz. Yes, by all means TRS04 should satisfy you completely, most of the DLS content available I would say had been created for TRS04 or earlier. I still occasionally use it although I also have TS09 and TS10 installed.

Cheers

Many thanks to all the above. I think I'll give it a go as some of the replies are encouraging. I'm getting on a bit (ok, turned 60) with time on my hands so I'll jump in and see what happens! Thanks again for the quick replies. Deltickid.:D

Only 60, that's young round here.

deltickid, im 73 and welcome to Trainz. I had TRS2004 and sent it to my son who is in the Air Force. I then purchased TRS2006. Sure wish I had 2004 back.

Is there anything in particular you are looking for? I'm guessing by your username you may be after Deltics, there is a much better version on the DLS than the built-in, check under username Pacific7 or tmz06003. As mentioned most UK content is created in TRS2004+ and just about every UK diesel class is covered, there are a few gaps that hopefully will be filled soon.

For coaches, my colleague uky901y has just uploaded a new CCT, he also has a full range of mk1s to match. These don't have interiors but look excellent. Mk2s by Peter D Hicks are the best and have interiors.

Wagons are well provided for, I've just uploaded a new HEA loadable coal hopper and have many more WIP. there are also MCVs, MCOs, OTAs VDAs YGHs PWAs PCVs PCAs etc etc... John Whelan has a nice range of wagons also including the OAA and VEA.

As for routes, are you looking for prototypical routes? I've uploaded Mallaig- Fort William and Shackerstone- Shenton (the Battlefield line). A route for long running would be WC1 by Angelah, Paddington- Reading, that is a cracker.

HTH.

Are there any animated bogies to put under your class 24+25's. I think they're yours anyway.
cheers fran

No offense tmz, but to a OCD deltic fan, p7/your deltics are likely to drive them insane - the exhaust doesn't come from the exhaust ports :)

Sorry no animated bogies on the 24/25s... the reskins are based on Pikka's original Trainz 1.3 asset- what we need is a new mesh.

Yes, the P7 deltic has a number of faults, the exhausts are already noted, the cab attachment points are too high, one cab is turned the wrong way round, logos and numbers in the wrong position...etc. I sorted as much as I possibly could on the reskins, what we need is a revamped mesh.

Hi deltickid & welcome.

I bought TRS2004 when I was approximately your age. It was an impulse buy when I got my new PC 14 months ago. First train set I've had since my Triang/Rovex layout in the 1950s/

Value for money wise it was the best thing I ever bought. Just £5.

I've learnt to run trains on the routes in the sim, build my own Routes, and hope to progress further with making my own assets.

There's loads of inspiration on this site. Lots of hints, ideas and a huge knowledge base from very helpful people. The results of what can be achieved can be seen on the forum and some are simply amazing.

I still feel a bit like a new boy, but when I've had a problem, or made a contribution the response has been great.

I'm holding off getting TS2010, mainly for two reasons.

Firstly I still get load of satisfaction from TRS04. I haven't closely got near to the limit of the creativity the Surveyor function offers. The Download Station (DLS) has loads of brilliant items which can be easily downloaded to immensely add to the experience.

Secondly, the mixed response from users means the jury is still out for me. However, consensus seems to be heading me in the direction of a purchase. But not before I can be sure that my precious (to me!) route creations can be transfered without too much hassle.

Hope you get as much pleasure from Trainz as I have.

Cheers
Casper:)
