Trainz 2004,2006, 2009

Can I run all three Games on the same hard drive? I had 2004 And 2009 loaded at the same time, but when i tryed to load 2006 SP1 wood not install and now I can not down Anything to 2004 or 2009. I am showing a mssage in 2004 that DLS can't Read my chche and i will have to reinstall 2004 and I would think 2009 also. I can;t tell If anything is wrong with 2006 cd disk or SP1 disk. they Both worked when I only had 2006 installed.

You can run all three on the same machine.

To direct downloads to the correct version - for TRS04 run trs04\bin\trainzhelper.exe (just click 'save') before downloading. For the other two use the relevant CMP/CM2...

Same here, but I would have them as stand alone installs on separate partitions of the same drive. Andy's is a simpler solution but that's me.

I have 2006 and 2009 on different drives in the same machine, but that means I also have two sets of content. If there's a FAQ or sticky on how to run multiple installs from a common database, I haven't run across it yet. OTOH I've only been at this for about a month, and am continually amazed at just how big - and active - the Trainz world is :)

Hi Joe13,

Is it possible that when you tried the 06 install that you forgot to disable your anti-virus and firewall programs? If you didn't disable when installing 06 (which is a must for 06) then the resulting mess could be a very large part of your problem? Could require a complete uninstall for each version to repair the damage but I hope not for your sake. I have UTC, 2004 and 2006 on the same dedicated hard drive here with no problems.

Cheers
Russell.

why run all 3 when one will do I have used most of the trainz progammes now I just keep to 2009. It takes me all my spare time to build layouts on this game all assets will download to this one programme

I run all three because from a route-builders point of view 04 is the best Trainz platform to date, the graphics in 06 are slightly better for running trains and imo 09 has more downside than upside. As to downloads you can direct them to whichever version you want...

I have everything fron TRS2004 thru 2006, the TC group, TS2009 and TS2010 all run-able on the same hard drive. I'm using T2010 full time, it is the best so far.

Wow, you must have one nice hard drive to have all that installed at once! In my case, I have some 8 gigabytes of just downloaded content installed into TRS2004! And then you have the rest of the game, which adds to it. And then, I still have UTC installed (even though I don't use it anymore :p:D), and that may add another couple of gigs to the equasion. And my HD has a max. capacity of only 61.9 gigs! (and of course there's the OS and so on... which will tear that capacity down a bit).

Regards.

I have one 800gb, and two 400gb. The price of big hard drives these days makes that sort of setup quite affordable.

Hi: I don't understand how you can direct to a certain one?.Every time I download something it automatically go's to my 2009..I also would like to run 2004..

I'm not sure I can help you, I'm working exclusively in TS2010 now but I'll try.

When you download from the DLS you end up with a cdp file. When you click on the file. the the first window gives you the option to select your target version. Bottom lefthand corner.

Another way is to look for 'Content Dispatcher' in the TRS2004 folder. Run that once and you should then find that all the CDPs go to 2004 afterwards.

Hope this helps

Peter

To download from the DLS via the download cart into TRS04 run C:\Program Files\Auran\TRS2004\Bin\TrainzHelper.exe (assuming a default install) - just click 'save', there is no need to edit anything, and all downloads from the DLS cart will go to 04. I keep a shortcut to TrainzHelper.exe on my desktop.

To download to any later version simply open the relevant CMP/CM2 and download from there, or if using the cart open the relevant CM before clicking 'Download all'.
