trains in space

whecsailorjr's idea of using Trainz to make a slot car simulation reminded me of a concept test I did to simulate outer space.

As others mentioned, invisible track was used. In this case a couple of maglev trains and two maglev stations were also used. The stations were put on a thin and tall pillars of terrain so that you could look at the "space trains" from below the level of the track or above as usual. All of the terrain was painted black and the clock was set to display a clear starry night sky.

Two meandering non-parallel ovals connected the stations. At points the ovals crossed over each other and the trains would cross over or under each other.

It was just a fun concept test, I didn't go any further with it.

Just for fun, I built a ski resort in Trainz. Using one of the superadaptors and a regular skier and snowboarder from the DLS, I made them drivable and then placed them to run on invisible track laid down on the runs. TrainzDEM provided realistic terrain of a real resort. There is enough ski resort things on the DLS to make it fairly realistic. Getting the drivable skiers back to the top required portals to avoid making them ski uphill.

That's very creative, Schweitzerdude, and it would be a great module to plug into mountain scenery in populated areas!
