train view/control technique suggestions

I'm just not getting the hang of train handling when using cab control.

Example: I have an engine coupled to 10 cars, and I want to back that string down the track to couple to another set of cars. So I make sure my 'focus' using the outside view, is on the engine, so I can increase the throttle. However then I need to set the focus on the last car in the consist, so I can tell when to throttle back, apply the brakes, etc. So move down the consist using the mouse or the '-' key. I can apply the brakes, reduce throttle. But if I need to then increase the throttle again, I've lost focus on the engine. so I have to use the '+' key or mouse to move back up the train. Click on the engine, increase the throttle, then rush back down the consist to the last car again ... and so on.

Surely there's a better way! What do you guys do?

Ok, maybe I can answer this myself. If I start the move with focus on the engine, so I can control throttle and brakes, then use the free-roam view to jump to the end of the train, it works well. Then can use the external view to jump back to the engine perspective.

I presume that's the preferred way. If there are other, better techniques, please elaborate.

And now...for something completely different...

There is an invisible "10m Spacer" <kuid2:78193:22603:3> Cyberstorm, which can be coupled to a "Fred Flag Only" <kuid:39134:102193> bnsf50...and can be coupled to a locomotive. You can ride in cab mode of the "Fred Flag Only" and watch your train, and roam about, all over creation.

Question: Is there such an asset as an invisible locomotive ? Like "driveable superadaptor" ?

On your keyboard:
A will apply brakes.
Q will release brakes.
W will increase speed.
S will stop train.
X will decrease speed.
R will reverse dirrection.
F will be forward dirrection.

What we really need is two PC screen monitors, as a locomotive enginner (is in the dark) and truely has to rely on the conductor, who is distant, on the ground, to relay radio or hand signal messages to the engineer (who is feeling for things in the dark).
