Train Priority

Is there anyway of increasing the number of priorities from 3 to say, 12 or 20. I was thinking that by using priorities I might be able to stop a lot of the problems with AI getting confused as to who should go first.

Doing that would require a coding change, which would mean another patch/hotfix (and as N3V are busy with TS12, that may not happen for a while)

"Priorities" are not an order of precedence - e.g. 1 is not higher priority than 2. They are simply a form of classification - e.g. so a train with a "priority" of 2 can be made to take a "priority" 2 route.

It might be helpful if there was some some form of true priority in the system but this may well involve a fair amount of coding work.

How can I use the current priority sytem? After allocating each train a priority how do I apply this?

It would be good if in any updates of Trainz, there could be a priority (level of importance) applied to each train so that one train would take precedence over another.

Hi Russell - The built-in priority system won't do what you want.

Have a look at this thread, last post

Mail me if you want to take this further.

Thanks all for you advice.

I guess I'll have to wait in the hope that Auran or some other clever cookie comes up with a solution.

Hi Russell.
What exactly is the problem you are getting?
There is plenty of combinations of rules, tips n'tricks to convince AI to work your way.

Nothing real specific. Just trying to get the AI trains to their destinations a little better.

Occassional blockages due no real prioritisation and was hoping to save a lot of driver commands by using priority.

I am running about 50 trains on the Razorback layout (a beauty).

Where I get congestion from AI, I use the Diamond Crossing rule, even though there is no such crossing it still works by only letting one train at a time into the area I set up, plus you can use it multiple times with multi tracks.
If you just sit and figure it out with your map, once all set correctly you will find it does a really good job.

Should have asked this earlier: Where can I get info on the use of these diamond crossovers? and do they work in TR2010?
