I should think so. There are not many everyday objects that can inflict a cut that deep into something that was meant to support 100,000 ton trains for many years.

Yes, those are notches cut into the ties by the derailed wheel.

Bingo! It's the bridge that leads into the LA rail yards from Hobart. Sidetracking a little, that's a pretty little excursion train.

Traincrazy: it is Chrisracer's route. Surfliner runs along the LA river then flips a U and terminates at Union Station.
