Track Objects Height

Ever since the introduction of Surveyor 2.0 I have had issues on my route with track objects randomly changing heights. Bridge piers, track marks, signals, check rails etc. The only work around seems to be to remove them and place them again but after a while I will load back into the route and they will all be floating again. I have also moved some of the objects in S2.0 and that gives me the option to reattach to track and this will move it back to the normal location. The height level seems to set to a random value. Some areas of the route aren't affected at all with identical track side object and track spline assets used. Has this been happening to anyone else. Most of the time the objects will rise above the track but in one area where I have street lights and stations signs on an invisible track they lowered beneath the ground. I don't play the game much anymore but check back every so often and it is still happening with the most recent Trainz Beta.

Without knowing exactly how you are placing these assets in your route there are a couple of possibilities here.

With splines, including track, if you select the spline from your layout using the dropper tool then it will also pick up the gradient (and other properties) of the particular spline that you selected. So when the spline is laid down it will be given that gradient. This is useful if you want to copy the gradient as well but this is not always what you want. My remedy is to delete the Grade setting in the Tool Options Palette as soon as you have selected the spline. Don't set it to 0% (flat) but leave it blank.

If you are moving a placed track object along a track, e.g. a track mark or signal, and you are dragging it by the object itself then its height will remain fixed to its original height, not to the height of the track. The trick here is to move the object by dragging the small attachment point (usually a green or yellow dot) where it is joined to the track. That way it will always stay at the height of the track, or the height above/below the track if you have set it to be not at the same height as the track.

If I remember correctly they were placed in Surveyor 1.0. For example in the last image all the station signs and street lights are track objects which are placed on an invisible track spline. I may have used the eye dropper tool from another station on the route to get the track objects and the invisible track assets. This is something I always do because its easier than searching for the asset name. It was only after a multiple saves the track objects just lowered underground (or raised in other places) despite the invisible track (or regular track, bridge) staying the same height. In the most recent beta builds I had replaced the track objects in the first few images e.g signals, bridge piers and they have stayed in place thankfully. In the past I had replaced the bridge piers multiple times and after 2 or 3 saves they would raise through the bridge again and again. Going forward I will make sure not to use the eye dropper tool when placing trackmarks or splines. Thanks for the explanation it's good to know there is a reason and not completely random.

What version or build number found on the Launcher on the lower left corner are you using?

There was a bug at one point that caused track objects to lose their position. If it's still doing this in the current build, submit a bug report here detailing what you found.
